well, theres this girl. she is in my piano class, i think that by having small talk every class i could get closer and closer to the point where we're friends

am i doing the right thing? if not tell up please =D

Yes, you're definitely doing the right thing, and it's really sweet. Small talk is a really good way to get to know someone better, so keep on doing what you're doing. Eventually ask her if she wants to do something sometime maybe after your class and then you can get to know her even better. I bet you'll have no problem, good luck :)
