advice
My Dad has a great job oppurtunity that he just accepted & that means I have to move about 14 hours away. Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy & kind of excited to get a chance to start over but I'm kind of scared. I've never moved before... I just started at a new high school this year as a freshman but I had a lot of people I knew around me. I don't know what to do! I've worn uniforms to school my whole life & next year I'll be at public school...I have no idea how I would dress! Can someone relate or help me out? I'm 15, female, soon to be sophomore. I'm moving to the Princeton, NJ area. Thanks!
Hey there. :]
I can definitely relate to your situation. I'm glad you're excited about it. I was PETRIFIED when I found I'd have to move from Pennsylvania to Texas, but I was excited about the whole culture shock of being around people of different religions & ethnicities.
I've gone to a public school my entire life, and the way people dress in the North is completely different then the South in my opinion. I was really scared, because I didn't know what stores were "cool" or what were in & stuff like that, and I wanted to look nice on my first days of school. The first week you should definitely just stick to jeans & a tshirt, or maybe a hoodie if it's cold. And sneakers, and see what people wear at school, and get your ideas from them. Sorry if I don't help out much in that situation.
Moving will definitely be hard. The first week of being at a new school was HORRIBLE. And I can easily say they were the worst days of my life. Just make a good impression, don't make too much eye contact with people, just smile & say hi to whoever you sit next to. I'm not going to lie, but for me it was really hard to make friends, just because I'm not one of those people whose in your face & can start conversations with everybody & their moms. Eventually a girl started talking to me in one of my classes about the differences between PA & TX and then she asked me who I sat by in lunch & I said no one, and she invited me to sit with her & her friends in lunch, and anywhere else I wanted to.
Make sure you get involved with a lot of clubs & activites, as many as you can. The more you join, the more great opportunities you'll get to meet people with same interests as you. That's a mistake I made. I never joined any. But luckily I made a lot of friends in school. :] Because once I got to know a lot of people, I wasn't afraid to like stick out & be myself.
Have fun moving, and I hope everything works out for the best, for you. & your family. :]
