I'm not sure what my condition is, or if I even have one, but it's like this:
Everytime I go to walk around my block, or if I'm in the house alone (and I babysit!), I freak out. I look around frantically, even running from room to room! Is this normal? I don't get it as a severity (sp), but it's not exactly too light either. What can I do to prevent this sort of thing happening to me? Thanks.
I can relate exactly to you. I get completely freaked out when I walk around my block or neighbourhood, despite the fact it is safe. I also have a huge problem being alone in my house, so much that I lock myself in my room most of the time. At least, I used to.
I went to see a psychologist about a year ago to work out those fears. Basically, he said to me "how many times has what you're worried about actually happened? How many times has someone broken into your home while your inside, or someone elses while they are home?" I thought about it, and besides the movies, its not common at all.
He then told me that breathing in and out, and just concentrating on that, helps a lot. It actually does.
Just try to think about the security around you. Your neighbours are always going to be there, and unless you are walking around at night it's very unlikely that someone is going to try to hurt you.
If you're really worried still, get pepper spray or carry a cellphone around with you. The comfort of another person is always helpful.
(Rating: 5) thank you so much
