How should I ask my ex out becuase according to friends he still likes me and I want to take him to prom ... I'm very shy though so it can't be something very blunt

This all depends on how it ended in the first place. If things ended well and you two still talk and are friends then I don't think it will be too difficult. But if you were the one to let him go, then it's probably not a wise idea to ask him out again. Do you guys still do things together at times or in groups? You could maybe talk to a mutual friend to see if you could find out what his plans are for that dance and possibly help you "nudge" him into asking you out. Mutual friends are a very good person to talk to about these things. If he still likes you and he had ended it, is what was bothering him about the relationship resolved? If not, it's pretty safe to say you should try figuring that out before trying to go out with him again.
