Hi, I'm a young 50 year old father of three (two sons one 5 and one 21, and a daughter of 31) from Romford, England. I have a lot of experience of life from both the good and bad sides, the good side when I was singing in bands almost every night and my life was one long party, and the bad side having to admit I'm an alcoholic and doing a hard rehab/detox programme (sober for 10 years now) then having a heart attack and a broken marriage to deal with. I am now in a good place in my own mind and want to help others as much as I am able to.

Can anyone tell me a personal experience they've had with dealing with tolerance? Why is it important to be tolerant of others? The reason I'm asking this question is because I have to write an essay and I would like your input on this so I can include it in my examples. All 5's to anyone who give serious, thoughtful answers. Tolerance is a large area to look at with many different levels.
Tolerance of others isn't necessarily just about personal dealings on a one to one basis it can be about a whole race, religion or section of society. Intolerence of others beliefs and lifestyles have been the basis of many wars and conflicts throughout history.
Intolerence is often based on ignorence and prejudice, and can be a hugely destructive force. On a more personal and one to one level, it can be the cause of racist, homophobic and other forms of anti-social behaviour.
Tolerance can also be about just simply putting up with your annoying neighbours, boss, best friends new girlfriend, or even family, mainly because you don't want to cause major problems for yourself and others by getting into any kind of conflict with them.
I know this is a long answer, but I hope it has helped,
