Here is my problem: I recently started to work part-time as a teacher in a private center. I realized my manager is sneaky. He recently asked me for a photocopy of my course material that I wrote for my students . My students have already photocopied this course material, so my manager doesn't need a photocopy. I believe he wants to make a book out of this course material. The thing is I spent 4 whole months preparing this material . I'm not about to let someone take my time and painful efforts and make a profit of it behind my back. How can I tell him that I don't want to give him a photocopy without risking losing my job? I need the money. Waiting impatiently for an immediate answer as I have work today. (link)

As a managerI will tell you this much, you need to be honest with him and let him know what you feel. Dont let him walk all over you, you cannot lose your job for being honest-there is alot more thanjust firing someone-i know its also my job to do that. Just tell him "Look i dont understand why you need a copy"? and he should give you an answer' f he does not give you an answer you clearly state to him that you dont feel he needs a copy when the students already have it. Also he cannot make a profit on someone else's work there would be a big lawsuit against him and he knows this, The best thing to do is talk to him and make him understand you want ot know why. You cant get fired for something like that and if you would you could fight it with unemployment-there is alot i know and cant just throw out there. But just talk to him--as a manager i dont like when my employees take me for granted,ir lie,or dont stand up for themself. Hope i could help

Well, I thought about it but I realized even if his intention is bad, ie, he plans on using my material,he's not going to tell me even if I ask him. He won't like to say the truth, as usual. So, this idea is not going to really work. Plus, I can't go to anyone higher in position than him because he's the manager and the owner of the place at the same time. So, I really still don't know what good excuse to say to him.
