advice
Well, things at home are not good for me. They haven't been for years, no I don't get abused or anything but I'm just not happy living here. I hate my living enviroment, and I really want to move out. I talked to my two best friends about it and they're really not happy with their familes either so we want to work as much as we can all of this school year and then next summer move in together (we have all of money problems figured out). Two of us would be 16 and one 17. My question is, what is the law for teenagers living together by themselves? We live in NJ and someone told me that you just need an adult to sign for you. Is that true? Anything is appreacited! Thanks.
Well, hello, fellow Jersey-ite!
There are a few obstacles you have in your way.
The biggest is that you can not enter into a legally binding contract if you're under 18, unless you're emancipated. In order to be emancipated you'd have to go before the court and prove to them that you are able to be finacially responsible for yourself (pay your bills, buy your food, take care of yourself).
Even if you are able to become emancipated, you still have to face the obstacle of your age. You may be very hard pressed to find anyone willing to rent to people who are still in their teens.
Good luck,
