My friend wrote:
how's everyone? been not so pleased for the past few days thinking about my hip surgery. and watching ballet has been really upsetting to me, so today i had to watch a rehearsal for the ballet carmen that i was supposed to do, so that made me sad in the first place and then i had to teach the replacing me the role. and then this said to me "i can't believe you ruined your body" like i meant to. i had to leave the room before i started crying. i'm just afraid that when they do the surgery they'll look at my hip joint and tell me that it's so affected by the arthritis that i won't be able to pursue ballet anymore.ah well, must think positively
what can i do for her to make her feel better?! any suggestions?? (link)

i'm a dancer too and i went through similar problems with my knees and had to sit out on the side of the stage and watch someone else take over my lead role. i felt so overwhelmed and i can guarntee that she is feeling similarly. she isn't going to be truely happy until she's able to be back on pointe. (i'm assuming since it was a lead role it was on pointe)A good way that would help her get through this is to let her deal with it for now. let the show go on as normal as possible and let it pass. then the day after the show, you and some friends get together and put together a routine to a classical ballet and be really silly about it. do stupid stuff the entire time and make it really funny and draumatic. crazy hair, funky clothes, over the top make-up...everything. Have your friend be the audience and let her have a good laugh for a while. then afterwards (after you change of course) take her out for a chick night and go to the movies (let her decide what she wants to do and pay for her) this will show that you really care about her and that even though she may feel really crappy about the whole situation, she has great friends to back her up. the cure for sadness it laughter. so give it to her. give her the biggest uplift she's ever gotten and she will feel so lucky and thankful. just be there for her and make fun of the whole situation. if you mak fun of it, it seems less draumatic, less depressing and easier to deal with. i hope it turns out all ok and i hope i've been as helpful as possible!
Always,
Carly
