I added more info. The guy who checked out the computer said my data was gone, but the folders were still there. So I'm really confused (not to mention mad) I was using CD-Rs to back up my data (it was all pictures and music. But the pictures I still have on SD cards, so no family memories lost, thankfully!!)

Thank you, I will try those. I asked my husband and he said that the disc drive is >40x, so that could have been the problem. :)
