How do I get kids to show up for debate practice, or to take chess practice more seriously?
Chess isn't all fun and games if you want to get good. And it's frustrating to go to tournaments and lose all the time, so I'd think they'd want to get better. Study. Too much like schoolwork.
At least they're showing up for chess practice. I'm getting almost nobody to debate practice. And this was their idea, too.

The radio station I listen to cranks out the cheesy pop tunes until I'm ready to explode some one/thing. Does this give me permission to send them hatemail until they play some REAL music? (and it is the only radio station in the area, besides classical) (link)

Why wouldn't you listen to the classical station, anyway? That's real music. ;)
Ever seen the movie Pump Up the Volume? Start your own underground station. Loads of fun, I'd guess. (I believe it's even legal as long as you don't exceed a certain power level. I can check that if you want.)
If they're owned by ClearChannel Communications (or whatever that company's called), by all means, do it.

I like to go jogging in the park a lot, but I've heard from some people that it's really tough on my joints, especially knees. My knees and ankles are sore after I run, but I can't think of a better activity to do for my heart, you know what I mean? Is running really so bad? Am I going to crumble into nothing someday, or can I just drink lots of milk and be fine? (link)

It's more the cartilidge and not the bones that are affected by the impact of running, I think. (If it were bones, more calcium might help.) I've heard of supplements that assist in cartilidge recovery, but I don't know how well they work.
Something more low-impact might work better. Walking, even speed walking would be good. Swimming is excellent. Bicycling, I think, is low-impact (although it might have an effect on the, erm, reproductive organs of a man). There's cross-country skiing, but I guess that's seasonal. (Until somebody invents a summer ski with wheels or something on it.)
