I have to write a paper for my anthropology course on an article about the Ice Age, and I have no idea how that ties into anthropology. Can anyone suggest any ideas?

Desk Receptionist.

Posted Sunday August 18 2013, 1:04 am

I am a new desk receptionist in my dorm hall this year. I am a sophomore but this is my first year working for housing. I have quite a few shit shifts, 4-6 am... I know :( but I was just wondering how to stay alive during those and how to also be a cool person during the day. I also really want to engage with my residents and be a friendly, likable person. The people on the staff of the dorm I was in last year really impacted my first year and made me want to work the job that I am working so I was just wondering how I can impact my residents' college experience as well.

I already am going to make cool door decs for them to hang on their door. I also have all of their room numbers and I'm going to write them notes when I kno...

When do you start to buy books for your college classes?

Posted Tuesday July 23 2013, 1:57 am

Should I wait to get my books until after the first day of classes or should I go ahead and get them? My parents say that I should wait, but I'm not really liking the idea of walking into class the first day unprepared. Will the books be sold out if I wait to buy my books?

College question!

Posted Monday July 22 2013, 12:19 pm

16/f if that helps any but I am going to be a junior in High School this coming up school year and I am worried about college and everything. I have decided to narrow my choices to either be a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer or an Ob/Gyn (Obstetrics and Gynecologist). My financial situations are not all that great and will definitely be getting loans out and applying for some scholarships. Anyways, I know it ranges between $24,000-$30,000 a year for education and boarding. I was wondering, to save some money could I take the undergraduate courses online then transfer those credits to a Medical school?

I want to go to Ohio State University, instead of taking my undergraduate courses on campus, I will attend an online colle...

Getting Letter of Recommendation

Posted Monday July 8 2013, 11:28 pm

I was dismissed from a masters program in Speech-Language Pathology due to my performance in the clinical portion of the program last fall. I tried my best to pull through but because of what I was going through at the time, ended up falling short of the requirement. I have since put myself together in a major way and am determined to get admitted to a graduate program in the same field.

I asked my last clinical supervisor if he would agree to writing me a letter of recommendation highlighting my previous work as well as some of my improvements. He emailed back saying that he is backed up with other letters of rec., and has even had to turn down some students who are still active. He said because of this, he would not be abl...

Is it bad I still keep going back to my community college?

Posted Friday June 14 2013, 12:56 am

I am a 20 year old guy and was taking classes at a community college for two years. I have now transferred to a university. But every Friday instead of going to my university to study I instead go and study at the community college. I prefer to study there instead. I just like the atmosphere better, I like to still say hi or chat with some of the math tutors, I like to have eat lunch at the Thai place or other restaurants around it and go to the Barnes and Noble right next to the place or go for a walk around. I realize I am somewhat attached to the place. Is this bad? If it is, how do I stop feeling this way?

Make Uni friends?

Posted Wednesday June 5 2013, 5:52 am

Hi,
So its not that I'm shy, its just that I'm friendly with everyone, but as a result don't have many close friends at the moment.
So I'll be going to Uni this year, and I'm worried about not making friends.
Its annoying, because although I consider myself nice to a lot of people-I think I come across as a pushover or whatever. People don't really bother with me outside class atm.
Also, I feel like I do a lot of the work for people. So if you were about to advise 'just say hi to people', I do this already. Honestly, like I do try with people in class, but they are a bit stand off ish with me-and all I was doing was being friendly!
So how can I make good friends in my first year at uni?

I've got myself into a big mess & I don't know how to handle it.

Posted Thursday May 16 2013, 9:04 am

I have gotten myself into an immense mess with my studies; I make almost no effort. I don't seem to care, I can't commit. I'm lying to my parents - they don't know I dropped out of my first uni and am now doing another course in the same city and the worst part is, I vowed to myself I would work super hard this year and prove that I can do it but of course I've done the complete opposite.

I feel like I cannot tell my parents about how sad and depressed I am and how hugely disappointed I am with my life - I fear they will disown me.

Every day I wake up feeling terrified and thinking about the future makes me so stressed my heart starts racing.

I am not entirely sure I will pass this academic year,...

What Should I Major In?

Posted Sunday May 12 2013, 7:36 pm

I'm 20 years old and just finished my second year of college. By credit hours, I'll still technically be a sophomore in the fall. Currently, I'm majoring in Sociology with an emphasis in Substance Abuse studies. I love it, but the problem is that the university I'm tranferring to does not off that program. I really want to do something that will allow me to help people. I DO NOT want to be an Education major and I don't think Psychology would be a good match either. What are some unique degrees/majors I could choose that would be similar to what I'm in now? I'll be attending Oklahoma State in the fall.

Good Music/Musical Theater Schools?

Posted Sunday May 12 2013, 5:31 pm

Hi, I'm looking for a good fine arts school in New York City. I want the school to have a good music (for vocal performance major) AND hopefully a good theater program, where perhaps I can do both. If I can only choose one, I need to vocal performance major, so a Bachelor in Fine Arts. I need a Bachelors degree according to my parents. Sooo, basically a school just like Juilliard, but easier to get into? AMDA? I don't know what's out there, haha. Thanks!

Missing and Exploited Children

Posted Saturday May 11 2013, 2:30 pm

My social work professor opened up to us the other day when she told that when she was eight years old, she had almost gotten kidnapped. If it wasn't for her sister being there and putting up a fight, they would have gotten kidnapped because there was a car that heard her screams and came to their rescue. After she told us her story she took us to the missing and exploited children website and said that we can sign up to help the cause. So, far, all I have seen is where to donate money. I want to volunteer to help out. Is there a place that I can do such thing and if not, do you guys know of anywhere that is similar to that so I can help out there? I really want to give my free time to something very special and prove to me that social work...

I don't know what to study at university :(

Posted Wednesday May 1 2013, 6:11 pm

I don't have any skills or interests that are obvious that I would like to develop. I have spoken to the guidance councillor at a local college who told me I needed to know what I wanted to do before she could tell me how to achieve it. Not much help really. There is a psychologist that can do a heap of tests and stuff to determine my aptitudes but she costs about $400 and it is way too much money for me at this time. Aptitude tests don't really hep me either and those tests deigned to tell people what carriers best suit them always come back with strange results that are always different. Any advice on how to determine where my strengths are would be helpful, thanks.
