Which Would Benefit More

Posted Tuesday January 13 2015, 10:04 pm

Hello, I am an eighteen year old female and am about to start my second semester in freshman year at college. The college I'm at specializes mostly in science and mathematics area - specially engineering. I started out in Geology during the first semester to see if science was TRULY where my strength laid, but I'm definitely more of an artsy person. Therefore I changed to English as a degree. I don't really know what I wish for my career to be... because I have a lot of things I like. In this college there isn't that much interest in arts, but out of the few degrees that do relate to something I like I have English and Plastic Arts. I don't know which one to pick (and I've been told that a double bachelor's is not really that beneficial reg...

Commuting to College

Posted Thursday January 8 2015, 5:47 pm

I'm 20, female, junior in college.
For my junior year, I decided to commute for a job that I got while I was home and to save money. For my senior year, my old roommate and I had planned to get an apartment and live together. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that commuting was the better option, especially since I want to work my way up at work and I can't do that if I don't work that much. I guess I never told my old roommate that I didn't make the payment to live on campus next year and she texted me today and said that we should plan a dinner for the girls we want to live with next year and I have no idea how I'm going to tell her that I'm commuting again. She has issues with her roommate this year and every t...

Not sure whether or not to pursue marriage and family counseling

Posted Saturday January 3 2015, 3:57 pm

21/f

Hello,

I have been studying about marriage and family therapy for the previous four years. It has always been an interest of mine. I was planning on pursuing marriage and family therapy for graduate school and now since the time has come, I'm having doubts.

I was thinking about just going into regular counseling and just my LPC. But the classes for marriage and family therapy interests me more. The only thing stopping me is the risk of becoming a marriage and family counselor. Many people have asked and told me, "you're not even married. Who would want to go to you for advice? Who would want to get advice or see someone for help who has never been married before?"

Th...

Does college name truly influence on job prospect?

Posted Tuesday November 11 2014, 12:13 am

Female, 18. Alright, here's the deal. I'm already going through my first year of college... but am still completely undecided as to what the heck I want to do with my life. I'm in a Geology major because I randomly found it interesting but backed up my choice with a bunch of bullshit whenever people ask me why I chose it. I'm considering changing from universities and here's why: I was too worried about the college I got into. I'm from Puerto Rico so the "best" universities here are considered to be the UPR ones (University of Puerto Rico) - I'm in one of them. I like to write a lot, therefore I considered going into an English major - NO. That's what I've heard, but from people I know and the internet. Sadly its true. Straight to...

Halloween Party

Posted Sunday October 26 2014, 10:40 pm

Hello, 20 year old female. I am going out Friday night and Saturday night at school to hang out with my friends for Halloween and I had an idea to go out Friday as nice Sandy and Saturday as Sandy after the make over. My question is, would a poodle skirt and blouse be a cute costume for a college party? I can't seem to decide if it is or not. I'm not asking if it's "sexy" so I pick up guys, I just think a poodle skirt could potentially be too jr high. Please help!

Afraid I won't get into graduate school

Posted Thursday October 2 2014, 1:49 pm

21/f

Here is some of my education background:

I did a high school program where I was able to get two free years of college as a high school student. I graduated with my associates at the age of 18. My advisor shoved most of our college courses during our senior year of high school--I took 27 credit hours in one semester. I barely even graduated. My GPA was knocked down. The remaining two years, I transferred to a university and graduated with a bachelors degree in Psychology. My GPA was also low because I was mentally exhausted from the year before, I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I just had a rough year and I struggled to keep my grades up.

The last year of my undergrad studies, I ...

Dilemma with Majors

Posted Thursday October 2 2014, 12:23 am

Lately I've been feeling extremely insecure about myself. I know its wrong, but I feel like whatever Major I get or university I graduate from will speak too much of me. A cousin of mine didn't manage to get into the one I did, which is a nice college, and my mom Heard that apparently his mother (who is also my godmother) was talking about me behind my back. She said in a discreet way that I would either not make it through college or that I would end up like my two cousins - pregnant. It really hurt me and everytime I think about changing majors that pops up and restrains me. I'm in the science department, in Geology or Earth Sciences. I like it, but its not my passion. I would prefer going into journalism or graphic arts. In the college I...

How can I regain my confidence back?

Posted Tuesday September 16 2014, 9:46 pm

I graduated college in 2010 with a medical related diploma. I have been struggling to find a entry level job related to my major. Every job I apply to I don't receive an answer or when I finally get the interview employers never pick me. "You're not what we are looking for", they tell me. I started to lose confidence in myself. It's been four years and the only solid job I had was because the other girl decided she didn't want it at the last minute. I was their third or forth choice. I quit after the company developed problems and had to downsize.

I went back to college to start fresh, changed my major, do something completely different, and reinvent myself. But a part of me is still stuck with the notion of not be...

Are there any PC repair techs out there?

Posted Wednesday September 10 2014, 11:32 pm

I was thinking of majoring in PC repair tech and would like to know more about it. How did you find jobs, how was your job, salary and wages, work environment, and anything else you think I should know. Also, are there any woman in this field?

I looked some of the info up online but would rather hear from someone with personal experience.

P.S. please, no ranting about how you hate your job.

Personal Statement Prompt

Posted Monday August 25 2014, 9:40 pm

I am in a crisis involving a horrible case of writer's block! I cannot decide on a topic for my personal statement I need written, revised, and embellished by this Friday! There are two prompts on the UC applications and no matter which one I choose, open a new word document for and just begin writing sounds like a load of crap. I am too distracted by my past and how it's shaped me as a person and cannot find a good solid yet positive topic to write about. I don't know if I can do this. I have scoured the internet for tips and advice but none has helped. I'm feeling low, and desperate.

Should I follow what I WANT or what I NEED

Posted Sunday August 10 2014, 9:46 am

I currently got into college (haven't taken my first classes yet though) and went for the Geology Department because finding a job with this major is easy and pays good, plus I think its a bit interesting. However I originally wanted to go for an English Major, perhaps making a double major in the future in plastic arts and making a small certificate in cinematography. I have a lot of insecurities and one of them is my future. Could I find a good job with my actual passion? Should I just follow my heart like a lot of cheesy commercials say? My parents are neck deep with debts and I want to be a good daughter to them - they raised me, I think its only fair that in the future I repay them by helping them pay their debts too. Also, my best fri...

I'm thinking of starting schooling in Dental Assisting at a local community college, they offer a 2 year degree and also a diploma.
Does anyone know what the advantages to getting the degree over the diploma would be? Because the diploma is so much cheaper....
Thanks in advance!

Same Old Case of Low Self-esteem

Posted Saturday July 5 2014, 1:24 pm

18/Female

I am from Puerto Rico. Currently in the process of getting an apartment and getting ready for college life. Except... I don't feel ready for it at all. I feel like I'm walking into a dark room with explosives planted all over and I'm bound to trip over one of them. Everyone I know seem so confident and are far much more ready than I am. This isn't my only problem. I'm scared. I'm scared of this new life that's coming ahead. I am going to an university that's about like two hours away from my home and that's without traffic. Sure, I'll be living with my best friend since seventh grade, but she has her whole future written out for her. She's already got an awesome summer job that is going to leave a lot of money for h...

advice on ways to get an idea of what I want to be

Posted Wednesday June 25 2014, 11:22 am

Okay so I'm 15 and ever since I could understand what college was I always said I'm going. Yeah I know over the years kids and teenagers change their mind a lot on what they want to be. But I don't know I just really would like at least a firm grounding on what id be doing somewhat. Is there anything I can take or do to get that? It honestly bugs me so much that I don't have the slightlest clue anymore. I just want to have an idea at least so I know what classes to take in high school so I could get into the best college for whatever I want to do. I've took a lot of those career test and every result I get each of them had science(chemist and physicist) and creative jobs(journalism and stuff like that) equally matched. Which is frustrating ...
