Bitcoins

Posted Tuesday February 25 2014, 2:39 am

Lately all you hear about on the news is "bitcoins!" I read a little about them and how real stores take bitcoins as payment now, but I don't know about trading real money for something that just seems "made-up" if you know what I mean? I am a girl and I don't know much about these things but if anyone can help me understand if I should put some of my savings in bitcoins I would thank you very much!

Mortgage / Retirement dilemma

Posted Wednesday January 8 2014, 4:58 pm

My husband and I are in our mid-50’s and live in Battle Ground outside of Vancouver, WA. 6 years ago we became empty nesters. We decided to pursue our dream of living in the country and purchased 7 ½ acres with a dilapidated 20 year old mobile home on the property for $360,000 with 10% down. The plan was to live in the mobile home for a year or so until we could get money together to build a home. Unfortunately this was the worst possible timing. The real estate market crashed almost immediately after we purchased this property and home values plummeted, leaving us $100,000 upside down within months. Many of our friends encouraged us to “walk away” and allow the bank to foreclose since we will most likely never recover our inve...

What will happen to my Paypal?

Posted Thursday December 5 2013, 4:04 pm

Hi, I made the foolish mistake of making a Paypal account and I will close it after this bull shit is done.
So recently, I made some purchases online and have a negative Paypal balace of $140. Some credit collecters called me saying I owe them the money and I said I'd pay them at the end of the month. I tried paying off Paypal but I spent too much (accidentally, plus I have other expenses always needed) before the full amount could reach the account but they sent it back. And now I got a letter saying I need to pay this credit bureau $134 by a certain date. I can pay it no problem but what I want to know is, what will happen to my Paypal when I pay the credit bureau? Will the negative balance still be the same or will it be fixed? P...

To Move or Not To Move? Do I declare bankruptcy and give up my house... or try and fight it?

Posted Saturday September 7 2013, 7:51 am

I have a home for which I paid $335,000 at the highest point of the real estate market. The house is now worth $200,000 at best. Recent struggles have put me two months behind. I can catch up but it will not be easy. My wife and I have seen a significant income decline. Leaving the house and filing and bankruptcy could hurt my future employment prospects. Should I keep the house and try to catch up or let it go and face financial ruin?

I'm at the end of my rope.

Posted Saturday August 24 2013, 1:59 pm

I literally have no idea where to turn anymore. I'm 5 months pregnant with no job. I've been trying for a month to get hired and nobody has even interviewed me. My rent is due September 1st and my bank account is in the negative. My parents are already paying for a car and my insurance and don't have any money to spare. My boyfriend spent every single cent of his check and didn't even bother trying to help me. I just want to give up, what's the point of trying? I have nowhere to go. What am I supposed to do?

Family vacation dilemma

Posted Friday July 5 2013, 3:32 pm

Straight to the point: 4 weeks ago we found out we are having another baby (yay!), that will be child #6. We had been saving a little to go on a couple's vacation (possibly a cruise) besides doing our annual family vacation (usually 4-5 days to a nearby beach) A very interesting opportunity presented itself, to take the whole family to Bermuda for 2 weeks. My best friend lives there and she finally has a place big enough to accommodate all of us. The trip would cost a little more than we had allocated for both trips (which would just be food and airfare, the rest is covered and we are very low maintenance, as in, we don't need fancy dinners or stuff to keep ourselves entertained) , but I think it would also be the vacation of a lifetime!...

401k

Posted Thursday June 27 2013, 6:24 pm

In the 2 years I have had my 401k I have saved roughly 8.5k. Its a low risk account so its not accumulating quickly but its safer from market crashes. I'm just wondering if in 10 years I will have most likely saved 50k? Ill be 33 by then

Tipping: How do you feel about tipping servers?

Posted Saturday June 15 2013, 11:51 pm

How do you feel about tipping?

I know this may piss some people off but I do not tip. I believe one pays for service when they dine out in the cost of their meal.

I am not looking to hear how ignorant I seem to be, I am looking for opinions.

Renting an apartment

Posted Monday June 10 2013, 12:38 am

I'm renting an apartment for the first time and my agent said that I would be given a free one month rent, except for electricity. She said that I would be moving in the 26th, but I also know that it'll be next month later in 5 days. I have heard that rent is due at the beginning of every month....I have to pay a small fee for that "free month" so I don't want them to end up telling me that my second month's fee is due already, since it's really only been 5 days. Is it okay for me to talk to her about when the rent is due every month? It would make sense for rent to be due the 26th of the second month that I'm living there since the first month is free. What if she says that isn't? Also, I'm signing a 6 month lease for this apartm...

Employer tax fraud

Posted Thursday March 28 2013, 7:28 pm

My former employer withheld taxes from my paycheck because I filled out and submitted a W4 form to her. Now she is trying to issue me a 1099. She claims that the paperwork was handled incorrectly but after talking with an IRS rep. I know that is a lie. The IRS issued me a substitute W2 for now and I will be sending them an SS8 form. But I don't know what to do or know what to expect. Do I need to consult with a tax attorney? Any other helpful info would be much appreciated.

Money Issues

Posted Wednesday February 20 2013, 3:10 pm

I need an at home way to make money. I am in my early 20s, have lived in rental housing for the last year and a half and am trying to survive on my own. Here's my problems: I recently spent my money on college, I am sick almost every month due to a health condition I have, my parents pay my rent for now since I haven't been able to work, I tried applying for jobs an hour away since the place i'm in hasn't allowed me any job opportunities that suit me, I just rolled my car so I have no transportation to get to the jobs I just applied for and i'm starting to get stressed out because it's winter and I am down to my last dollars. Fact is: I hate relying on family to pay for my housing and food. I mean, things were looking up and now ...
