Posted Sunday October 7 2007, 5:50 pm

I am looking to get a college scholarship. My family is middle class and with two children, is in no position to pay for 2 full college educations. I take school very seriously for that simple reason.

I'm in advanced placement (AP) and Honors level classes. Presumabely in the the top 10% of my class.

Participated in extracurricular activities like the yearbook committee (3 years), newspaper club (3 years), student council (3 years), field hockey (3 years), creative writing courses (3years)

Have around 600 hours of community service in hospitals, homeless shelters, state forest clean-ups, etc;

job experience in waitressing, and at a local store for the past 4 years.

Discuss some issue of personal, local, national, or international concern and its importance to you.
Indicate a person who has had a significant influence on you, and describe that influence.
Describe a character in fiction, a historical figure, or a creative work (as in art, music, science, etc.) that has had an influence on you, and explain that influence.
A range of academic interests, personal perspectives, and life experiences adds much to the educational mix. Given your personal background, describe an experience that illustrates what you would bring to the diversity in a college community, or an encounter that demonstrated the importance of diversity to you.

Hi,

It's my junior year and I'm getting ready to narrow down my college search. Right now, Boston University, Oberlin (in Oberlin, Ohio), and USC (University of Southern California, located in downtown Los Angeles) are my top 3 choices, in reverse order.

My cumulative GPA is like 3.6, but since I'm taking 2 classes that count for AP credit this year, my guess is that my cum. will go up to a 3.8 or 3.9, weighted. I know that puts me in the bottom GPA range for these schools, though, but I think that my extracurriculars, incredibly strong leadership, and community involvement make up for that. At least that's what the USC rep told me at a college fair yesterday. My P-SAT scores were all between 540 and 600, als...

When sending in applications.

Posted Friday September 14 2007, 6:23 pm

To those who actually have experience with sending in college applications, I have a question.

I planned on doing all of my applications online, paying for them and everything.

My application for UNC CH requires a teacher recommendation. I already have the teacher writing it, but I was wondering how it works with me sending it in. She said that she would put it in a sealed envelope and give it to me and then I would send it in with my application, transcript, and counsilor recommendation.

So, if I'm doing my application online would I just send these three things seperately (in the same envelope, just without an application)?

If so, how would that work. If not, what would I do?...
