I'm 18 and my parents kicked me out Posted Saturday August 23 2014, 3:10 pm
I turned 18 a couple months ago and my parents have decided to kick me out and remove all my financial support. They said that they’ve covered my ass as long as they should have to and it’s time I learned how to be a part of the real world. What do I do? I have no friends, no relatives that I can live with at all. It seems impossible to get a full-time job with no references or work experience. I’ve submitted my resume to too many supermarkets, retail stores and frozen yogurt parlors to count over the summer and I was only been able to get 6 interviews for part-time work. And I didn’t get hired from any of them. It seems impossible to get a full-time job with no references or work experience. I can’t join the military eit...

Is this a good deal for translating a book? Posted Saturday August 23 2014, 7:40 am
Hello Advicenators,
I am translating a book in the public domain. The idea to start translating the book was my fathers.
My father would like to make a contract with me where I would give him 75 % of the copyrights of the translatiion of the public domain book and I would get 25% of the copyrights. Is this a good deal? If not, what would be a good deal?
Thanks

Received tipped employee wage during training as a server.. is this lega? Posted Saturday June 21 2014, 8:11 pm
First off, minimum wage for tipped employees in my state, CO, is $5, and $8 for regular minimum wage.
I am a server at brand new restaurant/bar. I was in training for a few days (on the clock), and then started working on my own. I just got my paycheck and noticed I was only paid $5 for all of my hours, including my training hours, even though during those training hours I was not tipped at all. At my previous job, Old Chicago, I was paid the regular minimum wage of $8 per hour during all of my training hours. Is my current job allowed to be paying me $5 and hour for my training hours?
They also completely did not pay me for one of my days in training, and I was on the clock then too.

My Decision Could Affect Us All Posted Friday June 13 2014, 5:05 pm
Female, 18
I am from Puerto Rico. My economic status is slowly descending more and more into being from average to poor. My dad owns a restaurant that is driving us all nuts; being the owner and only the five of us helping out is not as easy as it sounds (mom, dad, me and my younger siblings). Plus, my family in general isn't all that helpful. I am about to go to college and now both my brother and sister are going to be in a private school - meaning its a lot of money that gets pulled out of us. I may not get economic assistance so I will probably need to make a loan. Not pretty. My sister's fifteenth birthday is next year and with all the money we will need now... well we may not be able to do what she wants to do - a trip ...

Amex rewards Posted Monday May 19 2014, 8:07 am
My friend's dad said that the american express card (amex) was better than other credit cards, but I am in college now and all these people want to give me credit cards and I don't know which I should choose. Are amex rewards worth getting that card for or should I take the ones I am being offered instead? Thank you!

Payday loans, direct lender Posted Monday May 5 2014, 1:57 pm
Is it possible to get a payday loan direct from the lending company instead of going to a check cashing company? Would it be cheaper/better to do so? I am in a bind and could really use the loan, but the last time I got one of these things it was awful and took me months to pay back! Any Help is appreciated!

California Tax Rates Posted Saturday May 3 2014, 3:04 pm
Hey guys,
I'm going to be moving to California for a job and I'm starting to think about how much I can afford on a apartment among other things. I'm a single female and I'll be making about $50,000. So I was wondering how much of that would be taken in taxes and what I'd actually be able to spend. I tried paycheckcity.com and I don't know if I can trust it. As a test I used my current salary and it said I made about $7,500 less than I do now after taxes (even though things like retirement and such are taken from my paycheck currently). I checked with the new salary and it said I'd make $20,000... It sounds too crazy that $30,000 will be taken in taxes...
If you're a California resident, can you please give m...

Cheap last minute flights Posted Thursday May 1 2014, 8:44 pm
I have to fly out for a funeral and the airlines no longer offer a bereavement rate. :( I don't have much money, but I have to say goodbye. Is there a way to find a cheaper flight with short notice? They want over $1,100 because there is no advance notice, and I am a waitress and a student. Thank you for helping me.

Business Partner Posted Monday April 21 2014, 5:57 pm
I will be applying for a business grant this summer once I complete all the necessary details to start a baking business. The only problem is, that I need a partner that will be as passionate and knowledgable as I am about baking. A little background info: I will be earning my journeymans in the near future and then take the steps to become a pastry chef - my dream title. I know for a fact that I get sick a few times a year an would not want my business to suffer by not being able to run it those days/weeks. This is something I've been planning for a long while and want it to be run properly from business plan to execution to success. I would like just myself and one other person to run the business and then hire workers IF I absolutely nee...

Financial Aid Posted Saturday April 19 2014, 4:10 pm
I have registered for my 5th year for college and it seems as though I am not getting any financial aid money this year. What is going on? I filed my fafsa a month ahead of time. There was a verfication worksheet I had to do (which is suppose to be random, but I have done this for the 3rd time in a row) and I did it late, but that was after I found out that I can print my IRS transcript online, so I had to wait four weeks. 2 weeks because I accidently ordered the wrong one and another 2 weeks because I had them mail it to me. Still, that is not a good reason for me to NOT get financial aid because most of them are student loans.

Last minute travel deals Posted Thursday April 17 2014, 4:46 pm
Is there one site that shows only last minute specials you can use to travel? I don't want to have to go to a bunch of sites and try many dates just to find things. Maybe that is why they make it so hard, so you will pay full price anyway? LOL!

Last minute cruise deals Posted Friday April 4 2014, 12:44 am
What is the best way to book a cruise as cheaply as possible? I heard that last minute ones are really cheap, but is it a good idea to do it that way, or is it even true that you can get on a ship cheaper that way?
