My Future Posted Wednesday August 27 2008, 10:58 pm
(16/m)
I know it may be too early to worry about my future, but I figure why not start worrying now? ;]
Anyway- here's my "dilemma". I'm planning on pursuing a career in the medical field, most likely something cardiac related. I'm worried about being able to pay off the cost of college and medical school. Is it true that you start making money during residency? If not, when do you start making money, and usually how much do you make starting off?
If you are a doctor or you know someone in your family who is a doctor, how long did it take them to start working in their specialized job, as in, how long was it before they became a brain surgeon, podiatrist, cardiologist, or any other pro...

College Convocation(former or current college students please!) Posted Thursday August 21 2008, 4:39 pm
In a few days I'll be a freshman and we're required to attend a meeting/speech/whatev thingy called Convocation. It is our "first formal college event." My question is do I have to dress up? What am I supposed to wear? It doesn't say that, but I was just wondering.

ethnicity for college Posted Wednesday August 20 2008, 11:46 am
This coming fall I am applying to numerous universities. My overall gpa is a 3.5-3.7 but my SAT and SAT 2 scores are not good. Apparently I am part native american. (very little but about a sixteenth i think) what I am asking is how do I get this proven for college. I heard of genetic testing to find the gene and I have a paper from my great grandmother writing down her family history. I asked my mom (a year back) to get this proven, but she has only found papers since then (I am apparently part cherokee by the way). What more do I need to do to get it proven.
ps I have heard of ancestry.com, but it costs 30 bucks
and if anyone knows more about this gene testing let me know
thank you so much

College and studying abroad? Posted Monday August 18 2008, 11:03 pm
I will be a junior in high school this year (public school), and apparently this is a big year for applying to and visiting colleges. My problem is I have no idea what I want to do. And I have been told I should think about what I want to do before deciding on colleges.
I have had a 4.0 both freshman and sophomore years, and I am taking 2 honors classes in hopes of raising that higher than a 4. I will be taking German IV honors this year... I went on an exchange trip to Germany and hosted a German student this year, and loved it. I definitely want to go back to Germany and am seriously considering studying abroad and maybe even living there when I'm older. I plan to be near fluent by the time I graduate high school.
I really d...

what do i need to know about college classes? Posted Monday August 18 2008, 1:38 pm
I'm starting college at Marshall University (a mid-sized university in West Virginia, where I live) a week from today. I've been to the campus a bunch of times and know my way around, and I know the professors won't baby you and make you do your work like high school teachers do. I'm jsut wondering what classes are like. How are they setup? DO they give out handouts? Is there homework, besides studying?
Also, what kind of school supplies should I get? For high school, I got 1" binders for each class and put looseleaf or a 3- or 5- subject notebook in them. Should I follow this same method for college? I'm taking 16 hours, which is five classes and an "Introduction to the University" class, which only lasts 8 weeks.

Too scared to do anything Posted Saturday August 16 2008, 10:49 pm
18/f
I missed my university open day today because I am too scared to go anywhere or do anything by myself. I have no confidence or anything and I don't know what's wrong with me. My mom is so dissapointed in me because I missed it and it was really important and I am really upset because I hate myself for being like this. What can I do?

hopeless??? Posted Tuesday August 12 2008, 1:09 am
ok so im trying to decide what to major in, for college. I am really intested in animals, and would really like to major in animal sciences such as; wildlife conservation, veterinariay med, and other related things. The problem is that I'm not very good when it comes to science. I took biology freshman year and got a B, but i have trouble in this subject and I am afraid that if I major in these topics i will struggle all through out college maybe even flunk out. This really is the only topics i am intested in... is it a hopeless cause to try and major in one one these subjects???

Dealing with dorming in college Posted Monday August 11 2008, 5:29 pm
I am very against smoking. I have asthma and it bothers me. I'm also afraid of getting secondhand smoke. If I live with smokers, but they never smoke inside the building, can this affect my health in any way? Is it only dangerous if you're inhaling smoke? Thanks!!

college! Posted Thursday August 7 2008, 8:55 pm
I'm a junior. I'm supposed to be doing college visits and all that jazz this summer, but I have NO IDEA what I'm doing. I get good grades, and I want to aim for Ivy league, but I have no idea of what I'd like to major in. I don't know which colleges to visit or how to schedule tours or what to look for once I get there.. Pretty much any information about deciding on a college would be welcome. Thanks (:
