Major: Undecided

Posted Sunday April 12 2009, 1:42 am

I have to choose a major and fast in order to pick out the right school to apply and transfer to. But I don't know what I want to major in, (I keep changing my major), and I only have one semester left to decide. I already have my general education done, next semester is reserved for classes that I am interested in to help pick a major out.

I guess right now my options are to apply to a school that I like that offers the major I have been interested for the longest time, or stop school and work full time, and maybe take a few classes for fun on the side. But if I take the second route, my parents won't pay for my education because to them making a pause is the same as dropping out and being a failure, etc, etc, so when I do ...

College Visits

Posted Friday April 10 2009, 2:19 pm

17/f, junior in high school

For spring break, I'm planning on visiting some colleges (next week). I have absolutely no idea where to go, but this is what I have so far:
Ohio Dominican University
Ohio Wesleyan University
Mercyhurst College
Miami University

I've basically been convinced not to go to Miami, since its so far (I live in Northest Ohio) and everyone says it's really preppy and stuck up.
What do you think of these schools? I found a pretty good site where there was a forum where people posted their thoughts on schools. Since Ohio Dominican and Wesleyan are small, there wasn't anything on them.
I have absolutely no idea what I want to do career wise. Since I'm s...

SAT scores

Posted Tuesday April 7 2009, 8:40 am

I took the SAT on March 14th and got 570 in critical reading, 520 in math and 660 in writing. In total it added up to a 1750 (I'm not sure about the essay score). I didn't have any tutoring for this one and it was my first. Based on those two factors, is a 1750 average or above average? I honestly have no idea. My math score needs improvement and I knew that going into the test and I'm applying to PA state schools if that makes a difference (I know each one has certain requirements). Overall I was just curious if 1750 is a good score or not? Thanks.

I have been accepted to callege and have an invitation for students families and friends to go to a "faculty student reception" where questions will be answered and information will be shared about the program. Do you think this is beneficial and i should go or should i just wait for school to start and learn everything there, its about an hour and a half long with light dinner. Would you go? if so would you bring anyone??

American Scholarships

Posted Wednesday April 1 2009, 9:29 pm

I am a dual Canadian/ American citizen and just got into Parsons, which is kindof pricey. I am wondering if there is some sort of American scholarship database that will allow me to look for scholarships that I may be able to apply to?

I have lived most of my life in Canada (and am a current resident of the country), and my guidance counselors really have no idea about the subject, so any help is useful.

If it helps, my grades are in the high 80s (which I think in America would be close to a 4.0, but slightly under), my SAT scores totaled 2010, and I do a bunch of extracurricular stuff around my school. Need based stuff doesn't totally work for me, since my parents can technically afford the education but are understandably disgruntled about it.

Tired of the whole college scene

Posted Saturday March 28 2009, 11:04 pm

Hey!
I'm majoring in Business, and I've been going to college for 3 years now. This last year I've just been so bored going through the motions. It feels like I'm wasting my life away. I think it's probably good to stay in school, but I'd like to get interested in life again. I'd like to travel but I don't really have the money now.
I'm sure other people have been in the same boat so I wanted to see if anyone had advice on things I could do?
-Thanks

college admissions

Posted Wednesday March 25 2009, 8:11 pm

As most of you may know, the days for colleges to make their decisions are either here or fast approaching. Most schools have sent me emails to log in to ther respective websites march 31st to view my status. I had stored all logins and passwords in my computer, but since the piece of crap recently crashed, I just realized they're lost to oblivion. Am I effed or what? Will the universities also send me letters to my home, or should I just call now to see if they can give me my passwords (again)? What's going to happen? What should I do??

McMaster University Questions!

Posted Saturday March 14 2009, 7:10 pm

I tried to look for my answers in their site but it was too confusing to find:

I'm 15 and it's my dream university; I've been working very hard in high school so that I can get into it. I can't even think of a different school to go to so if I don't make it, seriously, I don't know what I would do. I have a 91-92% average at the moment and the only thing I know is that you need at least between 86-87% average to go there.

1. Has anyone been there? Is it worth it? I've only seen those stereotyped COLLEGE shows with drinking and sex and partying and stuff, is that true?

2. There's just...jerks and rich people at my high school. Are there people like that there too or do the people actually try ther...

Thats like my dream college.
I'm 15 btw, and a freshman in high school.

1. Has anyone been there? Is it worth it?
2. What is the best field to study there that will make a great career in England?
3. I know that they prefer taking people from England, and I was actually born there and stuff but my family moved to America when I was 6. Does that count for anything?
4. What type of grades and etc do I need to go there? I know its a really good college
5. Do I need to take any type of special tests to go there other than the ones we take in America?

Other tips are helpful! thanks!

Applying to Ringling College for PDI

Posted Tuesday March 10 2009, 1:52 pm

Hello! I have a passion for photography and in the next couple year I plan on apply to Ringling. I would be majoring in Photography and Digital Imaging.
I would love some advice on putting together a portfolio and what they look for, since a scholarship is the only what I could make it through the four years.
Also, what are the best materials (cameras, lenses, etc.) for a photography student? I was thinking along the lines of a great Canon (that is not $1,000.)
