how do you quit a part time job?

Posted Wednesday January 28 2009, 10:40 am

ok so i have a part time job...and i'm getting another one soon. the problem is, i feel like when i work both these jobs and go to school i wont have any free time..ive been working my first job for about a month now and i kind of hate it but i decided im gonna stay with it until softball starts (end of march/april) so my question is, if i give a legit reason to quit come march, would it be bad that i only stayed with the job for 3 months? and what should i tell the manager when i quit? its my first job so im really confused on things, any advice would be appreciated.

Job Application

Posted Sunday January 25 2009, 11:19 am

so im 18/f looking to get a new job because the one i have now i barely get any hours and business is soo slow [im a waitress & have been at this place for 2 years]. i picked up applications for Outback Steakhouse and Taco Mac and i have a couple questions.

1. is it really necessary to attach a resume? i guess it would look good but that seems really professional just to be applying for a job as a waitress. so is it ok not to have one?
2. it asks when i would be available to start, and i put after two weeks notice at current job. would that make them less likely to hire me? both places said they're hiring, but neither one is like in demand & needs someone RIGHT NOW kinda thing. but is that ok to put? because th...

Weird Job.

Posted Thursday January 22 2009, 1:42 pm

So, I'm pretty weird. I don't really like going out in the daytime. But I want a day time job. So, what are some dim lit or dark stores? Like there was this one place that used to be at a mall near me, that had like all kinds of austrailian things. It was called Urban something. Oh, and the shoe store Journey's is pretty dark. But I'm not going to work at either of those. So what are some more? I'm 17/f if that helps.

avrg. cost to move out?

Posted Sunday January 11 2009, 7:13 pm

since im 17 now my years relying on my parents to keep a roof over my head is getting smaller, even though i know they will always let me live with them i still have that urge to fly from the nest. I did some research and made a rather silly summary of how much it might cost me to move out, im not sure if ill wait till i finish college or high school, but my idea of the cost came to about $15.5k for the first year on my own, you know renting an apt or house and all the little things like groceries and furniture, but I want to see of anyone could tell me how much the avrg. amount of money is that i would be spending to live on my own just so im prepared?

Sexual Harrasment Issues

Posted Friday January 9 2009, 8:08 pm

So a couple months ago I worked with a male employe at my job, at a very big corrporation food place, and another female. All that day he kept making very lewd ramarks about me and the other girl, we have to initial a cleaning list so he was taking each letters and making disgusting and very sexual sentences with our names. Then he kept mentioning how he really wanted to Fu** one of our female employes. Then when his shift was over he told me and the other girl that we should all hook up to have hot sex. He gave us his number and watched us for half an hour outside the store. I let it go, not happily but I thought at that time he was 16. Turns out he's 28. So the next day I worked alone with him and he insulted my religon and told a custome...

job placement centers

Posted Thursday January 8 2009, 11:43 am

I am currently unemployeed and of course looking for work. I have been looking on search engines like Monster and indeed.com and haven't had any luck. I have been contacted by a couple job placement centers, I guess you can call them head hunters, saying they can help me with my job search. They say they know who is hiring or about to before it comes out on sites or the paper. They have the edge. They say they charge a small fee but don't tell you how much. Either I will pay or the company who hires me will pay. Should I use this "placement centers" or go through temporary agencies or continue with search engines.

Thanks for your time.

Job and Spring Break

Posted Tuesday January 6 2009, 9:41 pm

I'm a teenager. I am thinking about applying for a job at McAlister's Deli. This will be my first job, so I'd like a little advice. I can work pretty much any day of the week except for Mondays, and I'm a "good kid." However, my family is going on vacation for a week over spring break. How do employers generally handle that? How should I approach the situation? Would this make them not hire me? Should I wait until after spring break to apply? Thank you!

Finding the right career

Posted Friday January 2 2009, 9:34 pm

Hey, im 16f grade 11. I know there is maybe no 'perfect' career for anyone, but many come VERY close. Anyhow, I am very artistic. I do basically everthing to do with art. Sketching, painting, drawing,I sew, bake,do photography, crochet, quilting, drafting, design, animation, etc.
I think I may want to pursue a career in design, but i still don't know since my options are so widespread. What I was wondering is how can I find a 'perfect' art career for me? I have tryed most quizzes on the internet. If you know of a very accurate/precise quiz or a site that lists all art careers in detail, please let me know of it. I know you should probly try everything once, and learn more about it since no one really knows what they want to do until they t...

applying for a job.

Posted Monday December 29 2008, 10:39 pm

Hey! I'll be sixteen in June and was hoping for a summer job. I know that PacSun hires at sixteen, so I was thinking about working there.
The problem is that I don't know how to get hired! Do they have to have a help wanted sign up? Because when you don't see many of those when you're walking around the mall.
Do I just ask for an application or something?
How do I do it and what are the chances of actually getting hired?
Also, there are a lot of malls around my area. Should I apply for all at once? If so, what happens if I get hired for more than one store?

Working Permit for Teens.

Posted Wednesday December 17 2008, 11:24 am

Hey! I'm about fifteen and a half, but I'll be sixteen on June 24, just a few days after summer vacation begins.
So, I'm hoping to get a summer job and to maybe start learning how to support myself a bit more. Like, I've ALWAYS been the baby of the family. My mom actually DOES still tuck me in at night with my baby blanket. NO joke :/
But I'm watching the Hills for the first time, online, and thining WOW! I'm almost sixteen. I don't want to end up like my brother, stuck at home at 21.
Sorry, I digress.

But bottom line-- where can I work at age 16? NO fast food places please. I live in Virginia, if it helps.

Careers involving social networking sites

Posted Tuesday December 9 2008, 9:02 pm

17/f

I have been working so hard for years to get into a certain university for commerce (specifically marketing) but today I had an eye opening experience. We had a school presentation on facebook and it lead me to realize that people are getting paid to work undercover to find pedophiles on social networking sites (police employees) and other similar jobs. I find that extremely interesting, it possibly reaches or surpasses my interest in marketing. Could the two careers be mixed and if so, any suggestions as to how? Thanks!

How to move on?

Posted Tuesday December 9 2008, 1:50 pm

A year ago I left a 6 yr job as a manager that I absolutely loved, but left because my boss was making my life miserable. He wasn't onsite all of the time, and apparently a disgruntled employee had complained about me, so he came to the location while I was gone on vacation began what he called an investigation. I was blind sided the minute I returned from vacation. He wrote me up for 6 different infractions, that had little to no truth, but I did not dispute these infractions because I was honestly afraid of him, and I knew because of similar situations with other managers, the company would back him anyway.

Once I left I wrote a letter stating the facts and explained the situation, but of course I did not get any response ...
