cheerleading round offs

Posted Friday August 10 2007, 1:56 am

I made my high school's jv cheers team this year.
We've been practicing quite a bit on tumbling and we go to a tumbling class once a week. Every girl on my team except a few can do a super great round off. My cartwheel is pretty much perfect, but my round off sucks. The thing is I can't seem to get my other leg around quick enough to land on both feet, it usually ends up turning into a retarded cartwheel lol. I just need some advice on how to get my round off down, and to get my leg over fast enough before I land. I practice a lot, and I'm not scared of trying something new to make it work, so any tips would be great thanks! Also, don't tell me to use a lot of power, because I do that and it doesn't help. :]

Try-outs...nervous much

Posted Thursday August 9 2007, 12:18 am

Hey! Well next week I'm trying out for my school's volleyball team (JV or Varsity). I don't have much experience but I'm pretty good for someone just starting. I've never tried out for a sport before and I'm really getting nervous and having second thoughts...even though I REALLY want to beon the team. The intimidation for the more-experienced girls just gets to me. Well, I was wondering if anybody have any advice and tips for me to stay calm, keep my cool, and how to impress the coach so that I can make the team and prove that I'm good and dedicated to the sport. Also, workout and practice tips would be great. Thanks <33.

When it's just not for fun anymore.

Posted Wednesday August 8 2007, 9:33 pm

When volleyball first started i was instantly in love with the sport. That is where i met my 2 BFF's. As we got to 8th grade we rocked at v-b and we where playing for fun and no one EXPECTED us to win, even though we where the "A" team.

Now that highschool started the coaches are like "you better do this or your not gonna play" and "You DON'T PLAY FOR FUN you play to WIN!!!" and "I DON'T WANT ANY LOSES!" she literly makes us run and do sprints(if you miss a ball in a game) by your self in front of everyone else. Then yells in our face if we don't win and points out every single mistake we make and what/who "cost" us the ""precious"" game.

Volleyball or Band??

Posted Wednesday August 8 2007, 7:10 pm

I am having a LOT of trouble with my v-b and band practices running into eachother. I don't know if i can do it anymore. It is really hectic running from v-b, to home making lunch, then sprinting to band. The pract. also run into eachother.
I KIND OF want to quit one of the things. But i LOVE both. I think that if i quit i would quite v-b. Any ways to help me with my schedule problems?

Ok so im senior and i play football for my highschool. This summer during the off season there were workouts at the school 2 times a week..it was optional but alot of players went. Well i didnt go to any of those workouts or team camp. I had to work at a job i already committed to..and i was goin through some personal issues with my fam. It really brought me down. So today..the coach sat me down..and told me..i was not in good physical shape and that i was not quick on the field. He also told me he was dissappointed in me and said that i would not be starter. I was really shocked..i didnt think i did that bad at practice. What do you think hes trying to do and what should i do?

All About Cheerleading

Posted Monday August 6 2007, 4:44 pm

I want to try out for the JV cheerleading team at my school. What do I need to know how to do to make the team? What should I practice doing? I'm trying to get in shape for it right now. I'm 5'5 and 140 pounds, and I plan on loosing more, but how much more would be good? What should I absolutely not do if I want to be a good cheerleader? Thank you so much!

nervous lil v-ball player

Posted Saturday August 4 2007, 1:51 pm

Don't know if this is the right place but, I'm going to be in 10th grade this year and Volleyball season is starting in two weeks. I am so nervous I think I'm going to explode. I'm a good player (not to be a jerk), but I think I might lose it as soon as I step onto the court. How do I stay calm and keep my body relaxed as well before I end up having an anxiety attack? (again...)

thanks,
nervous

Camp. :(

Posted Saturday August 4 2007, 9:08 am

I'm going away for cheerleading camp in a few days, and it's going to be a three over night, four day kind of thing. Thing is, I don't talk too much (I mean, I do, but I'm not like.. good friends with anyone.) And I'm scared I'm going to get really home sick.
I'm scared because I was doing this summer school thing where I could have gotten a scholorship, and it was for a week at a time, for six weeks, and I was absolutely MISERABLE. I talked and all.. but once again, I wasn't really good friends with anyone, or anything. And I'd cry every night (and I can usually handle some pretty bad stuff, just let me say that much..) and I ended up quitting after like, four days. I couldnt' even eat right.. then, once I got home I could eat fine...

Stunting

Posted Saturday August 4 2007, 9:02 am

Hey. Um, so I cheer, and I've been a flyer for years. Only, this year, I don't get too much of a chance to fly. This is because my base/back is always gone, and we don't have the right amount of girls on the team.. But, anyways.. I never tend to get to practice much. So, I have to switch around groups and try libs and stuff every few weeks (totally not fair).
Some girls say I'm really light, and then this one, specifically, says "Oh, that's alot of weight." I'm not sure if she's just lazy, but it's my main base, who says this, too. (Though, she tends to be a perfectionist, and is used to lifting an 80 pound girl).
It's just killing my confidence, ya know? I mean, I've always felt fat, but I've been trying like crazy...

Cross country training.

Posted Saturday August 4 2007, 12:03 am

I`m generally a good distance runner, except I went to the doctor a couple of months ago & they told me I had exercise induced asthma. The doctor also said that if you get in really good shape (runng alot, etc), it`ll eventually go away. I can`t just randomly go outside & run three miles or I`ll have another asthma attack, so I need a good routine that`ll help me work up to it. I`m doing cross country starting in two months, so any tips on how to prepare/train for it?

volleyball spandex pads

Posted Friday August 3 2007, 2:42 pm

are there any good types of pads that make it comfortable to play volleyball and so that you can't see the pad through the spandex?? oh and it also has to be sturdy, so it doesn't slide around or get bunched up and irritating. i'm not a tampon person, so i use pads a lot.

for example- when i'm playing and my legs are far out, the pad is like a U and then you can see this bump where my vagina is. so it looks really weird.

thanks, i've been having this problem a lot lately. help!!!!

freshman volleyball tryouts

Posted Thursday August 2 2007, 6:28 pm

I'm going to volleyball tryouts for my freshman year the week of August 13-17 (school starts on the 16th). I've played soccer before on a rec. team but I'm not like the ultimate sporty girl. The only time that I've played volleyball was during the times that we played in gym. I have a really great advantage, though, and that is my height (5'8") and the ability to jump up and like set the ball.

What should I expect on the first day of tryouts? The sheet just basically says dress in a shirt, athletic shorts, clean tennis shoes, and hair must be put back away from the face. I've never really played volleyball for real, I'm a little nervous. Do you think I will be good as an actual player on the team?
