Getting in shape for track. Posted Thursday October 18 2007, 12:27 pm
I'm thinking of joining the track team next year (no spots left this year) because I really want to take up a sport but I'm not really in to team sports.
I'm not in great shape, I haven't done sports since I was about 12 (I'm 16 now) and even though I'm the fastest female runner in my class (which isn't saying much, there's only about 8 girls haha), my resistance sucks and I get tired easily.
I've got ages before I join but I'd really like to start getting in to shape now. Apart from the obvious (running...) what can I do to get in shape?

basketball tryouts. Posted Friday October 12 2007, 2:08 am
i'm trying out for winter basketball at my school in the Fall. i've done basketball out of school.. probably the longest than I've ever done any sport. I don't even remember all the things I did for it. But I'm not amazing.. I mean I'm a good defender since I'm aggressive and not afraid to grab the ball and stuff, but I'm not the best shooter.. and we don't have a basketball net at my house so i can't practice. I mean I havent played basketball since last spring (I did travel bball) since I didn't try out for my school team last year cause I forgot. But do you think I have a chance.. cause I guess I'm good at foul shots and some faraway shots, but I suck at lay ups currently. Well I'm doing soccer right now in gym and I can do basketball ma...

want to be cheerleading captain! Posted Friday October 5 2007, 4:26 pm
i am on the jv squad at my high school. next week, my coach will be choosing a captain and a co-captain. we have to write a one page essay on why we should be captain, get a teacher recommendation, and show good leadership skills. i think i would be great as captain, but i am really worried. two girls are planning to make/buy stuff for all the cheer coaches, sort or as a bribe. i am worried my coach wont realize its a bribe and let them be captain or something. also, there are some other good leaders on my team. anyways, what can i say in my paper to really convince her i would be good! i have experience and i am a motivated, good leader, but i feel like i need more. also, she said she will be watching for who is being a good leader through...

soccer competitiveness becoming a problem Posted Thursday October 4 2007, 7:29 pm
kay so in gym we're playing soccer now outside.. well we got to pick out of 3 things and i picked soccer. im 13/f in 8th grade, too. and like i guess i can be pretty competitive.. like i like to play sports and talk to my friends at the same time, but i participate alot. well I've already accidentally kicked 2 kids in the shin in the timespan of like.. a month and one didnt play till the next day and the other got better and played the same period. and the teachers say its good to participate but maybe not be as competitive.. it makes me sad because im honest to god not doing it on purpose.. I guess I may not have too many soccer skills, like I'm bad at faking sometimes, and I always fall for it when other people fake.. but we dont have to ...

All About Poms Posted Thursday October 4 2007, 5:23 am
how do you keep your poms from not becoming dead and misshapen? Mine are all poofy and round now but the older girls with old poms have really wrinkly ugly small not round ones, and I dont want mine to look like them. Also, what is the differenece beetween pom poms, poms, and pom pons, if there is a difference? I'm a cheerleader if you can't tell, but I also wonder, how does colorguard use poms? I hear they use them in competition. Are theirs any different?

Futures Field Hockey Tryouts Posted Sunday September 30 2007, 10:10 am
Has anyone here tried out for futures, the USA Field Hockey Program?
I want to tryout really badly, and I asked my coach and she said I should, but I'm really nervous for it. The deadline to sign up for tryouts is October 4th, and I need to figure out fast if I should try out.
So, if you have tried out or know something about tryouts:
what should I expect to do for tryouts?
is it a really intense atmosphere?
what kind of drills are involved with tryouts?
are there a lot of people there?
how much running is involved?
And anything else you feel like mentioning about it.
I would tryout in the NH location, as it's nearest to me, if that makes a difference.
Thankss.
