Need moral help concerning giving fish to a bad pet store. Posted Thursday June 25 2009, 3:05 am
I'm 15 and I raise guppies for fun in a large aquarium. Guppies multiply quickly! I have been giving most of them away to a local petstore with the help of my parents. The last time I was at the store I noticed that there were very few fish... and not much business... I became fairly certain that the majority of the fish were dying. My parents either did not notice or do not care, and want me to contimue giving my fish to this store. Furthurmore, I do not know of another store who will take the extra fish. Raising guppies has been a fun hobby and I don't want to stop, but I don't know what to do... I don't want to keep handing over fish to be killed in a poor aquarium enviroment. Any advice would be appreciated!

Potty training cats...? Posted Monday June 22 2009, 12:43 pm
This is a really weird question, but...
My cat is a little over a year old, and I adopted her at 11 weeks. She's been litter-trained, and has never missed, never had a problem with it. I clean her litter box every day, and nothing has changed.
I woke up this morning to the sound of her scratching at something, and walked into my bathroom to find a few little...presents...in my tub. I cleaned it up, put them in the toilet, and showed her.
This sounds odd, but she's really, really smart. I can only assume she figured out that the bathroom is where I do my business and she tried to do the same thing.
Does anyone have any experience potty-training cats? Or any ideas?
Thanks!

My dog died yesterday Posted Sunday June 21 2009, 3:14 pm
Yesterday morning, my 16-year old Kerry-Blue passed away, and I'm absolutely heartbroken. Last year, my 9-year old Schnauzer passed away, so I know what it's like to lose a pet.
But my question is, if any of you have lost pets ever, what have you done to cope? I've been spending a lot of time with my 7-year old German Shepard/Irish Wolf Hound mix, and with my cats, too, and it's definitely helping, but I just wanted to know other ways I can cope.
Thank you so much. =]

Does my pug have a disorder or bad behaveoir? Posted Friday June 19 2009, 8:53 pm
About a year ago, my family and i got a dog(a pug) in Colombia. We got him at 2 months of age. When it was time for us to leave, we realized that we couldn't take him on the plane or he would die, we had to wait until he was at least 4 months. So we went home without him, leaving Rasin (thats his name home) with our grandmother and trusted friend. They sent him over again when he was 6 months of age. He's a very good dog, hes currently a year and a month old. But although hes outgrown his puppy stage, he still bites his dog house as if hes still teething like a puppy. He is deathly scared of my mother and her "newspaper". I dont know whats wrong with him but im beginnng to worry. Please help my helpless pug! I cant do anyhting si...

Almost Gone Posted Thursday June 18 2009, 8:16 pm
I'm usually pretty happy, but now I'm not.
My dog, Sadie, was born a year after me, and I've never known life without her. She's 13, though, and a big dog. She's had some health problems, and I know that she has little time left. I'm scared. My cat died when I was nine, and that was bad, but she's my best friend, and I'm crying just typing this. I'm really scared that she'll go. I know and understand that everyone goes through this, and that she'll have to go someday, but I'm dreading coming home from my first day of high school and not having my happy girl there to meet me. I, personally, think that she has a week or two left. I am going to my first overnight camp (I know, late), and I'm really looking forward to it, but it would ru...

When to take a new kitten to vet for the first time Posted Monday June 15 2009, 2:40 am
We have a 9 week old Maine Coon kitten. He seems healthy (eating well, playful, etc.) but should I take him to a vet just for a check up? Are there any shots that he needs? Are there any good websites to find this kind of information on for future reference?

Taming Parakeets Posted Saturday June 6 2009, 4:39 pm
I got three parakeets about four or five days ago, and I am feeling a little overwhelmed when it comes to taming and training them. One of my birds has made more progress than the other two, he accepts touching and some perching on my finger. The second bird runs away whenever he is approached, but once he is caught and gently held, he will put up with very brief touching. He is beginning to let me reach out to him. The third parakeet is a crafty little guy. He runs and climbs fast and will easily evade any attempts to gently capture and hold him. Once he is caught, he bites for all he's worth. I love all my birds and want to tame them so that I can take them out of the cage and enjoy their company, but the training attempts I have made are...

Is it normal for female cats to gain weight after they have been spayed? Posted Wednesday June 3 2009, 10:43 pm
My 9 month old Maine Coon cat was spayed last week. Her operation went well and her cut on her belly is healing just fine; however, I have noticed that now after a week she is getting a little pot belly/lump right under the incision on her belly. Is this normal? Has this ever happened to anybody's cat after they were spayed?

Is the Whack-a-kitten / Whack-A-Kitty video animal cruelty? Posted Friday May 29 2009, 1:27 am
I have heard that there is a news story calling the famous "Whack-a-Kitten"(Actually "Whack-A-Kitty" but people seem to have taken over using the other title) video on YouTube animal cruelty!
Is this true? Have you seen it yet? Here is a link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_udqEp_YR4
I think it is cute as heck, and I don't see the cruelty in it.
I also can't seem to find that news story. Anyone?
Thanks!

traveling Posted Wednesday May 27 2009, 11:30 am
I am moving in a few months to another country. I have two cats that need to go with us and I was wondering about air travel. They will go in the cabin with us, but I am sure they will scream and howl like crazy. What should I do? I have heard really bad things about sedatives and tranquilizers and that they are not reliable and can hurt the cat. They are both about 10 years old and I have heard that older cats might not wake up from tranquilizers. Is this true? Of course I don't want that to happen, but I also don't want any trouble from complaining passengers because of my cats' howling. Any advice?? Thanks!

my kitten... Posted Saturday May 23 2009, 1:03 am
my cat is about a year old. shes very tiny, and has always been on the thinner side. there was even a time when someone made a comment about how "fat" she was getting.
well, a while back, she started throwing up. a LOT. like almost 3 or 4 times a week. she'd eat waaaay too much and end up not even chewing up half of it, and then she'd turn around and throw up anywhere.
since that has been happening, she hasn't been getting much nutrients. and shes also eating less and less and losing waaaaay too much weight. she's getting so thin and bony. she still goes outside and runs around and stuff, but im concerned about her weight. if she was a person, id call this bulimia. but shes not a person...shes a kitte...
