What's wrong with me? Posted Saturday July 10 2010, 9:56 am
I'm a sophmore in college. I find my university is much easier than my high school. I love college and I think I'm doing pretty well. But, it seems like no matter what, Math is a problem. I really need to pass math with at least a B in order to get into my program. I have good grades in everything else. It seems like no matter how much I study for math, I just can't do well on the tests. Please... if you have any suggestions at all, tell me. I have a tutor and everything. It's just that when it comes to the test, I don't do well. I really have to do well on these next tests. It's the only grades we have. Thanks!

Discriminating scholarships? Posted Friday July 9 2010, 11:11 pm
I'm so stressed out about university and I'm not good at sports at all (if I was even decent, I would give it a try). But there are such a high amount of money given to students that are so good in sports PLUS free residence, etc when the highest scholarship I can find for someone like me who studies their butt off is $3000 (if your average is 95%+!). Do you think that is fair? And why do they do that? That's so not far and obviously the athletic people will go into professional jobs but some people that are book smart are going to be in univsersity for a LONG time!

Psychiatry? Posted Thursday July 8 2010, 8:16 pm
I'm thinking about studying to be a psychiatrist. I think psychology is SO interesting and I think it's fascinating how the human mind works, etc etc etc.
But I'm not great with people. I suck at small talk. I'm just SO awkward around people I don't / barely know.
So does being a psychiatrist require one to be a people person? Or is there some branch in the field that doens't?

i'm laura, 19, and soon to be a junior in college. long story short: went to chatham university - majored in graphic design (hated it), i go to the art institute of atlanta currently (love the school, but no long sure about my major). i don't know what to do because i feel like no major seems to be my calling. my mom's frustrated because i can't make up my mind, but i can't help it. i don't know what to do with my future or what i'm truly good at. this time, i feel like i should go into a new school to do nursing. i feel like i would like that because i love to help people. should i continue with my last 2 yrs in a major that i don't click with or should i pursue nursing? thanks so much guys <33

Worried about starting college next year Posted Sunday July 4 2010, 9:06 pm
I'm starting college next year.
I have a lot of friends right now who love drinking, getting high, etc. In college, I'll probably be surrounded by MORE people like this.
The problem is I dont' drink and do drugs AT ALL. It's not even that I think it's wrong, I just feel I don't need it. I've tried beer and whatnot before and I didn't like the taste. I've never tried drugs but I don't really feel the need to get high or see a real point to it.
Anyway, how alienated will I be in college? I'm worrying that I'll stand out. Right now it's not too bad; I just don't hang around with my friends if they're going to be drinking and shit. But in college, will it be different? How do I cope?

Major/Career Choice Posted Thursday June 24 2010, 10:11 pm
19/Female
I am currently attending a 2-year college, and working towards an Associate's Degree in general studies. I am transferring to a liberal arts college next year.
I love reading and I have always enjoyed English. I finished my English requirements for college my senior year of high school. Since then, the majority of my transfer classes have been a literature or writing class. I have been so unsure what I have wanted to do with my life, but since I have a profound love for English/literature, that is what I have decided to major in.
I am starting to second guess this decision though. I slacked off in highschool, but I have been an excellent student in college thus far. I hate to think I ...

Scholarships Posted Thursday June 17 2010, 11:20 am
the college (Stony Brook) I'm starting next fall gave me a full scholarship.
A week ago, I found out I also got the national merit scholarship at $2000 a year. I got the college-sponsored scholarship, meaning it was awarded by my college after.
What happens? Do I get to keep the extra money or what? I tried looking it up but couldn't find it.

Louisiana Posted Tuesday June 15 2010, 5:37 pm
Hey there I am currently in my last year of high school in Ontario, Canada and I have been thinking of what to do after I graduate. Which brings me to my question is there any foundations or companies I can join like Red Cross or Habitat For Humanity to come down to Louisiana and try to help them with the oil spill, cleaning up after hurricanes and such and building houses? Also how can I go about doing something like this?
Thanks for your time links or any information will be greatly appreciated

International Relations, Oxford University, and the ambitious student Posted Tuesday June 15 2010, 6:18 am
I want to do international relations when I'm older. I'm 16 and its summer vacation, so I want to do a job or community service thats relevant to where I want to be. Would it look better if I did community service or got a job, too? And what kinds of things could I do that would be relevant. Trying to create world peace? lol. When I was younger I did a People to People Ambassador program but they are expensive so I can't do them every year. Should I try and form a Student Chapter in my area, or what?
Also, would it be impossible to make it into Oxford University if I am applying from America? I was thinking about doing the PPE course there. I have British citizenship as I was born there, if that helps. But I'm confused on wha...

Going to college for the first time: What the hell do I bring? Posted Tuesday June 8 2010, 6:25 pm
I'm off to college this year. I'm going to be dorming, but I have NO IDEA what I should bring and what's provided by the university. I didn't get to go to a tour of the dorm so I don't know. (I'm going to Stony Brook, if it helps)
So, what do I HAVE to bring? What should I bring? What shouldn't I bring?

Science Posted Sunday June 6 2010, 7:30 pm
I want to study pre-med, biology, or pshyciatry in college. Something scientific, and I need to narrow my list. I have 3 possible colleges that could be my first choice- College of William and Mary, Lehigh University, and Rochester University. Which school is best for a sciency major? If there are any websites I can compare schools by major or anything that would help, but I can't find any. If not, writing the school you think is the best scientifically would help a lot, and hopefully it's pretty unanimous! If you can prove why the school you choose is best, that would help a lot as well. Thanks

To become a nurse... Posted Sunday May 23 2010, 10:08 pm
My sister is starting to make me freak out about my future, I want to become a nurse. So this program I'm doing, I'm graduating with my associates of sciences. Then I'm planning to go to a university, the thing is... My GPA is somewhat at risk. It went to a 3.5 to a 3.2 all due to one C. Then I had 2 C's in the spring semester so it dropped my GPA to a 2.9... My sister says to be in a nursing program I have to have a 3.5, and the thing is.. I'm starting to think I'm not smart enough. No matter how hard I try, I always seem to make a lower grade than I expected. I can't seem to put my mind into school because I also have work on the side since my parents are divorcing and selling the house so I'm trying to save money. I don't know... Is gett...

should I start college again Posted Monday May 17 2010, 4:48 pm
I am 46 yrs old and am thinking about getting a bachelors in healthcare administration--I got an assoc in rad technology 24 years ago. I would like to do it online and it is expensive so the question is do I risk going into some debt to pursue this new career. I don't think I have what it takes physically to do my current job for another 20 years so that is why I am thinking of continuing my education and it is something I always thought I could do--just worried about risk versus reward I guess.
