Is this being assertive or plain rude?

Posted Tuesday April 23 2013, 2:31 pm

17/f
I used to really take it to heart when people said something bad about me, but all of a sudden now I don't anymore.
If people physically are immature-like locking me in a room for a few minutes (me the other day) from somewhere now I just shout at them.
Also, in class if someone's nasty I'll respond back-just like say 'well that's not true'.

You see before I'd ignore comments but be angry when I got home that I did not stand up for myself but now I am doing I feel its to much.

So my question is how to be assertive but not look like an idiot eg.shouting my head off.

Asking for half portions.

Posted Friday April 12 2013, 4:11 pm

Hello,
I will be going to the states this summer (I am from Europe) and I was wondering whether it is acceptable or reasonable to ask for half sized portions when ordering a meal in restaurants?

I am not much of a big eater and also trying to watch my portion sizes and I know here it is perfectly acceptable to ask for such a request and I was just wondering if this is also fine in the US? As I will be travelling around and staying in hotels, I'd rather not have the leftovers boxed...

Is being a Follower a bad thing?

Posted Monday August 20 2012, 2:59 am

I'm eighteen years old, and I'm basically a follower. If real life were a video game, I'd totally be a support character. I'm very good at being backup, being there for people and sacrificing my own wants or needs for theirs. I'm also very good at following orders and respecting seniority. I have been my entire life. I always think about other people first. I follow people the majority of the time. If my friends and I, say, go to the mall or something, I prefer following behind them. I don't know why, it's just how I am!

It's not to say I can't lead. I guess I'm sort of a lazy leader, in a way. If a situation arises where there are all followers amongst us, I'll take the lead if I have to. But if anyone else wants to lead I'...

Texting in sick to work

Posted Wednesday June 13 2012, 1:42 pm

I am currently an intern at a school, and woke up this morning feeling exhausted and really unprepared. I texted my supervisor early this morning to let her know I wasn't feeling well (even though I'm not sick), and it's afternoon, and I haven't heard back from her.

I am worried she will find a text unacceptable, and I don't know how to proceed at this point.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

My teacher is always touching me when teaching something....is he wrong?

My teacher is always touching me when teaching something....is he wrong or am I overreacting?

I'm taking classes over the summer to gain additional credits for school.
There's this teacher that's always walking around me while I'm in class and putting his arms around my shoulders and arms. He'll just be lecturing and standing in front of the room and then walking by me putting his arm around me. I think he knows I have a crush on him cause I'm always smiling, But I DO NOT want to do anything with him. Sometimes I blush when hes around but that's it. He'll be in class teaching and put his arm around me. I don't think he'll try to do anything but sometimes he gets close to me and its really uncomfortable, even when I ba...

What are your thoughts when you see someone "sagging" their pants?

Posted Thursday June 7 2012, 7:08 pm

What are your thoughts and opinions when you see someone "sagging" their pants or jeans?

I myself think its a nasty disgusting way to attract attention. I've seen guys walk around holding their pants with their pants hanging down to their knees, I'm not lying. I don't understand why they just don't wear a belt instead of having their pants to their knees and struggling to walk. How does it make you react? What should be the fines and punishment for sagging? Should all states have laws against sagging? Why do you think they do this?

Broke Maid of Honor

Posted Sunday April 22 2012, 8:38 pm

Hi all, 24/f here. My friend Jane is the bride.

I asked a question awhile ago about what to do about the dress she wanted all her bridesmaids to wear, and my parents have agreed to pick up the tab on that.
Recently, Jane asked me if it was going to be too much responsibility for me to be her MOH, and I said not at all, because as far as I knew it was just the dress, which I had figured out.
Now more and more things are cropping up. She expects all her bridesmaids to buy matching shoes to go with the dress; she expects some big bachelorette party, and gifts at the shower (which I didn't get an invitation to, and just found out it's in ten days. No idea what to get her.)

Not only do more and mor...

What is the best way to deal with a bad roomate?

What is the best way to deal with a bad roomate?

I'm a freshman in college, and my roommate is not the best. (that's the nicest way to put it). She's not a clean person, she leaves her trash everywhere as well as her dirty dishes. She's rude and inconsiderate of the fact that im in the room too. For example, if she has an early class one morning and I don't have one till 12, she'll get up and start making a lot of noise.Throwing things around, slamming books. She does the same when she comes in late from her partying and im sleep. She has also taken up most of the space in the room, which makes me crazy!
Finally, i share a bathroom with my roommate and two other girls, (its a suite-style dorm), and the bathroom is dis...

Maid of honor and flat broke. (Can't afford a dress for the wedding!)

Posted Wednesday February 15 2012, 10:02 pm

24/f
I'm just curious as to what you guys suggest - I've gotten into kind of a pickle.

My friend is getting married in August, and has asked me to be her Maid of Honor. I'm thrilled, of course, and beyond excited for her, but as my subject suggests, I'm... very broke. I hardly have an income right now, and I'm on my own. I'm working my butt off to finish school (I graduate in May), but I haven't found a new job yet. My parents help me financially when it's necessary, but any extra expense aside from my bills comes out of THEIR pockets.
My friend has asked her bridesmaids to pay for our own dresses, and while they are (just) under $50, that's two weeks of groceries for me...
There's nowhere for me to cu...

How do I stop being so nervous when I have to present in front of a class?

Every time I have to present something in class I get nervous standing in front of everyone. My knees shake and my voice starts trembling and changing. I had to present yesterday and my knees were shaking in front of everyone and my voice was shaking. It was embarrassing. I know most of my classmates, I don't know why I get nervous. I can't just pretend Im presenting to one person either. Sometimes I get so nervous people Laugh at me. I have to present something again on next tuesday. Now I'm taking a speech class this semester, so I have to talk in front of the class and read sdon'thes and I dont want to be shaking and nervous, so how can I stop my knees and my voice from shaking?

My JROTC teacher picks on me a lot!

Posted Tuesday January 10 2012, 7:54 pm

I am naturally a quiet person, and I am not a troublemaker. I don't bring a lot of attention to myself and I do my work.he always watches me, it's like he is waiting for me to do something he doesn't like so she can pick on me about it. Everything I do he is always on my *** non stop! he is rude to me sometimes and I don't say anything or do anything about it :( I want to ask him a questions but he ignores me. I think he bothers me because he's the teacher and if I say something back to him he can just send me to the office so I don't say anything. He puts me down and I don't show that I get upset about it. When we do assignments in class he picks on me and talks to me like Im dumb. He lets other students get away with a lot. I wear my unif...

Price of a wedding dress

Posted Saturday November 12 2011, 2:35 am

I was wondering if asking the price of someone's wedding dress is considered rude, as in to most people. I asked one of my friend how much her sister's wedding dress cost while we were watching "say yes to the dress" and she said she can't tell me because it's personal. I honestly don't get how it's personal but then that's just my opinion, if she asked me, I would've told her. So do most people consider it rude or is it just my friend who thinks that?

Mothers table manners/etiquette

Posted Friday September 16 2011, 1:41 pm

My immediate family really have no table manners.. They don't hold there utensils properly and because of that I had the same habit... When I went to dinner at my bf house he later asked me about it... I was so embarrassed and grateful that he brought my manners to my attention ... I have since become pretty proper but my mother is still he usual self and now I get disgusted when I eat next to her because I realize EVERYTHING she is doing... Chewing on chicken bones really loudly, eating with her hands, speaking with her mouth completely full and food on her lips just makes me loose my appetite. You may think I were making this up and I wish I were but I'm not, I've tried talking to her but she gets offended. I don't know what to do ... May...

Is this teacher being inapropriate?

Posted Thursday September 1 2011, 10:14 pm

Sometimes I blush when hes around but that's it.If I go to the restroom and Im tardy to class, he will take me to class and he acts weird, he asks weird questions, like he asked me did I love him in front of our class. He will get really close to me and ask me do I love him and if I say no he just says that he loves me. I cant tell if hes serious sometimes or if hes just playing. Sometimes he makes me go in the hall so he can talk to me about nothing that's important. He calls me his girlfriend in front of teachers and students and they just laugh at him because they thin...

What number can I call to report illegal drug dealing?

Posted Thursday August 11 2011, 7:22 pm

MY parents and I are sick of my cousin, my brother and his friends being loud and obnoxious in front of our house and selling drugs in our driveway and in my brothers room. My parents cant kick them out because my brother broke 2 doors and he'll try to fight my dad. We are really sick of them drug dealing in front of our house, they carry guns and I think that's another reason why my dad is scared of them, they have pulled guns on my uncle and other people that they fight in our yard. They park in our yard and run in our house whenever they want to. The police told my aunt she was coming from the drug house and she doesnt even do drugs. My parents do not do drugs or sell them. I think they are afraid to call the police. They...

Why did the city that I live in put "no parking" signs on by my house?

Posted Sunday July 17 2011, 7:20 am

Some people that I think work for the city came by my house and put "no parking" signs on the curbs of my house. They didn't put any of these signs in my neighbors yard, why would they just put these signs in my yard. We cant park on the curb of the street by our house, but my neighbors can park on their side of the street. The signs say " no parking anytime". None of my neighbors have these "no parking" signs on their curbs. Why do I have it on mine?
