Reigniting my passion and potential in life? Posted Monday June 6 2011, 8:55 am
Yes it's utterly melodramatic, but I feel like I've lost my passion for life.
Back in High School I was a really bright kid and I loved anything creative. I had this weird passion in life and in pushing my potential as far as it would go. I think it was somewhat because people looked at me differently; I was a quiet, awkward teenager with a low self-esteem from a socio-economically disadvantaged family, and with divorced parents. Most people thought I was going to end up as a deadbeat drop out (and in the area I live in, it wasn't difficult to imagine).
I excelled in my classes and got into Uni. I've been in Uni for a year and a half now, and I'm just so unfulfilled and disappointed. It all started in my first ...

I feel like I should move? Posted Tuesday May 10 2011, 7:24 am
I live in Sydney, Australia. I've had this feeling for as far back as I can remember that I wasn't living where I should have lived. When I was 4 my parent's moved from Melbourne to Sydney, so for a long time I thought it was just because I wanted to be back there (even though I couldn't remember anything about the place).
But as I got older I started to notice how different I was from everybody else around here. I was really creative, and in High School I felt like my abilities were never able to reach their potential. The school wasn't awful, but it didn't have a lot of resources, and a few not so amazing teachers. But it wasn't just those things, it was the whole vibe of the place. None of the other kids were interested in...

Which senior project would look the best to colleges? Posted Saturday May 7 2011, 8:12 am
At my school, it's required for seniors to do a senior project. It's done throughout the entire year, so I thought it would be great to do some sort of community service, since it's definitely something that can help with college admissions.
1. Do a clothing drive for kids and teens in Cameroon (my family is Cameroonian, so it really means something to me to help there), and also do the "30 hour famine" ( http://www.30hourfamine.org/ ) to raise money and food supplies for other poor Africans
2. Participate in "Jamie Oliver's food revolution" ( http://www.jamieoliver.com/us/foundation/jamies-food-revolution ) to change lunch in my school district. Nobody likes the food at my school, because i...

Should I drop out? Posted Tuesday May 3 2011, 3:34 pm
I'm nearing the end of my first year of a Politics degree at a UK university. I've been pretty miserable the whole time I've been here for various reasons - I'm not enjoying the course, my flatmates are awful, I'm very lonely and I miss home badly.
Now I'm seriously considering dropping out, going home and getting a job. I've weighed up the pros/cons of both staying at university and leaving but either way it seems I get a bad deal. I can either spend another two years completing my degree and being miserable or I can go home and accept I will struggle to find a 'good' job.
The truth is, if someone said to me I could go home tomorrow and have a decent job ready and waiting for me then I'd go in a heartbeat. De...

Should I drop out of college? Posted Friday April 29 2011, 11:11 pm
I have money for 1 months rent and none for food the next month. I'm too depressed to get a job, and I've dropped out of all but two of my classes. I cant get food stamps unless im going to school less than half time. Should I drop one of the last 2 classes so I can get food stamps? Or just fail them? I've quit going to one all together and have bad grades in the other. I'm afraid to do it though because I'm going to school with financial aid, and am too depressed/anxious to take the bus to the main campus to figure out if it will put me in debt or not to drop the class. I don't have a phone anymore either and hate talking on the phone anyway.

Did I choose the right major? Posted Friday April 29 2011, 11:00 pm
I'm a computer science major and digital arts minor, looking to go into game design.
My mom keeps telling me that it's hard to get a job in computers since everyone's going for it. But programming comes so easy to me and I loved every part of designing basic games in AP Computer Science in High School. :\
Is she right? Am I making a mistake?

Getting a BA & a BS Posted Tuesday April 26 2011, 3:27 pm
Hi, I recently added two majors one being a BA and the other one being a BS.
I know what the difference is between the both, but what are you considered? You're not considered a double major, because one is a BA and the other is a BS.
It's something like duo studies ... I don't know. If you guys can tell me, it would really help me out.
Thanks.

Do I have a chance to get into the University of Chicago with a 3.3 GPA... Posted Saturday April 9 2011, 7:20 pm
35 ACT, 2400 SAT, and great ECs?
I've gone through a lot of struggles, especially during sophomore and junior year. but i think i've become a much better student than i ever was. would it help if there's an upward trend from the 2nd semester of junior year? I'm a junior right now, and speaking hypothetically for the ACT and SAT scores. But I'm going to be working all summer to study for the tests, because UChicago is my dream school. I also plan on visiting the school, and doing an interview. do you think it would be better if I applied during the regular time, so that I can show them more of the upward trend my senior year? UChicago is my dream school, and I want to major in Econ. After looking up a lot about it, I think I'd...

Mature Students Unite! Is school an option for me? Posted Thursday April 7 2011, 5:15 pm
I'm a totally awesome computer fix-it type who has been awesome at my work for about 11 years.
The problem is that the field is flooded and while it's certainly got jobs, there's an industry-wide push to make it abhorrent. For example, I worked for a place who thought I didn't process jobs quickly enough because I preferred to be more thorough with customer backups. IT departments and turning to outsourced workers in order to shrink their budgets. In short, with all these shrinking prospects, it's been terribly demoralizing for me.
On the other hand, I've been improvising characters in Internet games and radio shows, as well as writing a lot of stuff. I volunteer as a puppeteer, and when I slip into a character...

Afraid of going to college far away and being all alone Posted Saturday March 26 2011, 12:44 am
So I'm almost done with my first year of college and I'm transferring for my sophomore year. I found this amazing college down south that has my major and pretty much everything i want, it sounds perfect. I'm just scared that I'll be alone. That's my biggest fear. I have two best friends that i would die for up here and my family and everything. I guess I'm just scared I won't make any friends. I'm a super nice person and i make friends easily, but I've never ever been "the new girl" or the girl coming in knowing absolutely no one. So is there anyone out there that went to college far away not knowing anyone and how did it turn out?

Academic Writing Posted Monday March 21 2011, 5:38 pm
So, this is my first uni assignment and I was just wondering if this is good English.
".. The number of times she interrupted me was astonishing. Having someone interrupt you was annoying enough, but having someone assume what you were to say was irritating, rude and unbearable."
My question is, does ".. what you WERE TO SAY" make sense? Is that good English? Does it even make sense? It sounds academic to me, but it doesn't sound so right. So, I just wanted to run it past this family! :)
Thank you in advance!

Just got the news Posted Thursday March 17 2011, 4:18 pm
So I literally just committed to a College that is about 33 minutes or so from my house, I am staying on campus. Freshmen were allowed to have cars when I went to visit, but today in the mail I received an email from the college saying there is a no first year students on campus policy now. It says I can appeal, what are some good reasons I can use to appeal?
I'm very angry with this because 90% of the reason I committed was because I can bring a car. I was supposed to get a new car next month!
