Baby Shower

Posted Sunday February 12 2006, 12:49 pm

I'm currently expecting my first child and my due date is fast approaching. I recently told my husband that I'm hurt that no one has offered to throw a baby shower even though everyone around us (family, friends, coworkers, church members) knows that we are expecting. He said that I should throw a baby shower for myself. I'm afraid that it would be a breach of etiquette and come across as greedy. With our current financial situation, the gifts would be helpful, but I want the shower more for the companionship and celebration that comes with it.
1) Would you consider it greedy if someone were to invite you to a baby shower they were throwing for themself?
2) What would you do in this situation?

She is a pretty girl but I am fade up with this. How should I stop her doing this?

Prom Date?

Posted Friday January 27 2006, 8:26 pm

Ok so I'm graduating this year. My best friends and I are a group of 6. 3 guys (J,A, and S) and 3 girls (D and R) and including me. A and R are going out. I liek this guy (X) and I really want to go to Grad with him but I think he might have a date already. So we have a huge circle of friends but us 6 are the main ones and everyone else is organized into limos and tables anyway (ten in each and that is perfect because that means every one of us can get a date because A and R are going together).
Now, J and S both have dates. D doesn't have a date but she's desperate and she has a backup anyway. Any friends I know that aren't in my grade and are free (meaning they don't have a date/table/limo) are my muslim friends and they are reall...

Why do "advice" people laugh?

Posted Sunday January 8 2006, 10:45 pm

This isent really a question, its more of a statement..Im from Canada, and over here we dont use AOL, which would explain why i dident know what aim was.
Back to my question..it doesnt matter to me, but I was just wondering why some people in here laugh at people when giving answers, I thought this was an advice colum.
So whats the deal with that, i personally dont care, however some people might take offence to it.

How do you talk to stubborn kids (A question to the more mat

Posted Sunday January 1 2006, 5:48 pm

Ok guys, Im somewhat at a loss. Most questions on this website tend to be at least somewhat mundane. Stuff that, while it could be very important to the poster, isnt life threatening or seriously life altering.

However, every once in a while, we come to the ones that ask a question about something where they stand to screw either their own, someone elses, or both lives.

Case in point, Ive just answered the second question from a girl who is 16 and wants to get pregnant when shes single, living at home, and basically incapable of supporting herself, much less a baby.

Now, this is not the only example, just a very recent one. Worst of all, many of the questioners in these cases are completely o...

Embarass

Posted Tuesday December 27 2005, 4:30 am

I am 16/F. At home I don’t use panty or any thing underneath to feel relax . I feel uncomfortable always wearing so many things, my skin not so good with elastic materials. Few days back I was alone at home in my room wearing frock, no panty. Door bell rang , my uncle was there. We were sitting in living room on opposite sofas and have a chat on various topics as he visited almost after two months. After about one hour suddenly my mind sparked and I realized that I was without underwear and uncle must have seen my private parts. So I swiftly change my sitting position. Uncle left the home after half an hour. This incident was worst for me. I am feeling embarrassment as my uncle might think about my acts and character. Please adv...

How to avoid putting my foot in my mouth

Posted Tuesday December 27 2005, 3:28 am

Hello,

I am 27 years old and have been grappling with my social awkwardness from my early teens. I've always been very shy and insecure, though have improved greatly over the years. I've learned to accept myself the way I am, but sometimes I still make the same social mistakes. I am tired of embarassing my husband, family and friends when I make social blunders - namely putting my foot in my mouth. I am always conscious of other's feelings, so don't do it on purpose. That's the problem - I don't even realize that I've said something wrong most of the time. I only find out what a doofus I was when my husband or someone else asks me how I could have said what I said - didn't I realize how rude that was?! I feel so ashamed, and...

Friend is afriad of the homeless.

Posted Friday December 9 2005, 4:38 pm

This a strange sort of etiquette question that has been bothering me from a while now…

I have a close friend and we live in a large metropolitan city. Whenever we are walking on the street she will do absolutely anything to walk as far away as possible from a homeless person. This really grates my nerves.

If we are walking side by side she will move all the way over to the curb, even if it means crossing in front of me in order to be 6 or 7 feet away from the homeless person (and a few feet any from me as well, since I continue to walk in a straight line). She will move back to me after they are a few feet behind us. I find this unbearably rude and downright heart breaking. She often tries to convince me too ...

Unexpected death

Posted Sunday December 4 2005, 1:31 am

There's this girl who I used to really care about, but am no longer close to. She calls me out of the blue, after LSU lost to Georgia so I'm already pissed. She tells me that her baby sister who was just a few months old died of SIDS. Even though I really don't like this girl anymore(ok I hate her), I still feel awful for her family. Her family never did me wrong and I was wondering how I should go about the situation. A card? Flowers? I really don't know,b/c I haven't been around death that much.

Smoking

Some of my friends are smoking (cigarettes). I'm really worried but I don't think they'll listen to me if I ask them to stop. Should I stop hanging out with them or what? I'm afraid of being pressured by them.

Expressing yourself

Posted Tuesday October 25 2005, 11:50 am

Just curious... in this day and age of teenagers and computers I see that so many use short acronyms like "UR" for "you are" etc. I enjoy the forum here, but sometimes I have a hard time telling who is being cute and computer savvy and who is being lazy or (forgive this) uneducated? Is it the "in" thing to come across that way or these things aren't taught in HS anymore?
