No references for new job interview

Posted Sunday March 20 2011, 6:00 pm

I'm 23 years old. I've been looking for work for months now after leaving school due to medical issues in October. I finally got an interview, but I've run into a problem. I don't have references. Here's why:

Last job: Had a legal battle with the owners of the company. They were chronically disorganized and claimed to have paid me for my last month of work when they hadn't. I had to hire a lawyer to get them to pay me, and even then they refused to give me the overtime they owed me. So I didn't leave on the best of terms with them.

Previous job: Another small, family-owned business. The owner, I was warned, gives terrible references because she wants you to keep coming back to work for her. I can't rel...

Job Search: Post-interview question.

Posted Thursday March 10 2011, 8:22 pm

My fiance (23 years old) just graduated from college in December, and is applying for engineering jobs. He had a second interview with one company on February 18th, and they said they'd call him back within a week. He waited for until last Thursday, March 3, before giving them a call (he'd already sent a thank you e-mail), and when he did call they apologized for not getting back to him sooner, that they'd been very busy and one of the interviewers had been out of the office, and said they'd be in contact within a week.

Well, it's been a week, and now there's a further complication. He has an offer of summer employment with his part time employer, but it's on a contractual basis and would require him to move away for 4 mon...

Joining the Navy

Posted Thursday March 10 2011, 1:41 pm

I'm a 19 year old female and I am currently working towards my General Transfer Studies in a Community College in Saint Louis, Missouri.

I've always been interested in joining the military, preferably the Navy, or the Peace Corp, but I would like to continue my education and persue a medical degree.

Can someone tell me a little bit about the military, again, preferably, the Navy, and how I can continue my education and serve my country.

Please include requirements for joining and such.
I'm only 110lbs, and I know my options are limited as a female.

I Need Help With Careers!

Posted Friday March 4 2011, 5:38 pm

Hey! I'm 15/f and I would really like to start to have my mind set on what I would like to be. I'm opened to any careers mentioned and to look up more info on them. My family has told me to either be a Lawyer(I have a big mouth lol) or a Physician(I like children) ever since I was little. However, I want to explore different careers to see what else would interest me. Considering how the money now is terrible, I want to have a well paying job, that is manly my most consern and then I would have to obviously like the job. My mother had also said that I should become a Nutritionist because I am interested in eating healthy. Would someone be able to give me a list of specific careers that are well paying and what I should be studying?

How can I get a job in Japan?

Posted Friday February 18 2011, 10:28 pm

I am finishing up college in March and graduating with a business degree. I studied abroad in Japan and loved it and really want to get a job there. I wanted to do the JET program but didn't get in. I have applied to several other English teaching schools in Japan but ideally I would like to work doing business in Japan. Does anyone have any advice on companies that hire Americans to work in Japan?

Any practical advice on how to obtain a work visa and get a job in Japan would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

jobs for a desperate 14 year old

Posted Wednesday February 16 2011, 11:17 am

hey, I'm looking for a job or even a volunteering job. I'm in love with animals so anything with animals would be really cool. I always get on Google and type in " animal volunteering jobs for 14 year olds" but usually all i get is "volunteer at your local animal shelter!" But I'm to shy to just ask straight up...and I'm looking for something with a little more work than just handing the real important people tools or just getting them something. Any body got any thing for me?

i don't know where i should apply :\

Posted Tuesday February 8 2011, 10:07 pm

i'm 18 and i've never had a job before, besides baby/pet sitting. i tried to work in fast food once and got fired two days later. (honestly was not my fault. they screwed up my hours and didn't let me know i was working on certain days and assumed i was cutting out) so anyway, fastfood is not my thing.

if i were to try to get a job now, where is a good place thats NOT FAST FOOD that would hire me, even with absolutely no experience in cash register or anything?

These are my options - Nurse Anesthetist, Neonatal Nurse and Family Nurse practitioner.

I keep on going to website after website searching for a clear understanding
they always say.. u need this..bla bla bla.. and also this

i was wondering if i could have the total number year of school that i would need from lamar university to become either a neonatal nurse, nurse anesthetist or family nurse practitioner.
i am interested in all of them, and all i ask is for a clear amount of years of college schooling before i can go straight into the workforce and receive payment.

Should I quit my job?

Posted Sunday January 16 2011, 10:48 am

About two months ago, I got a job at a place I had previously worked at in order to get some extra money. The problem is, I hate the job. Mostly I'm just standing around wasting time, which is what everyone does. Most of my coworkers and I don't get along very well because I'm not into partying as much as they are, and I don't work there very often. When I do work, it's a three hour shift, every time.

I have another job that I've been at for three years. They really like me there, and I get paid the same as the other job. I had gotten the new job because the old job was undergoing remodeling and my hours were cut because part of the store was closed. Now that we're done remodeling, business has picked up a lot and I'm getting...

About to Graduate, what to do next?!

Posted Sunday January 16 2011, 1:00 am

Hi,
I'm a senior guy in college studying business and I'm only a couple months from graduating. I feel a huge amount of stress to go out find a job and start a career but I have no idea how to go about doing it. I live in the northwest of the US and want to move somewhere new. Also I am currently living with my parents and feel a huge urgency to get out of the house and on my own as soon as possible.
I also love to travel so I'm also looking into possibly teaching English overseas or something like that. I am proactive and outgoing and so I already have some interviews with companies but I'm so confused I don't know who I even wanna work for even if one wanted to hire me. I feel like I have no time to think cause I have a...

Working From Home

Posted Wednesday January 12 2011, 9:33 pm

I am currently a full time college student. I have been working for most of my time in school and the job that I've had has been giving me more and more problems. I understand that in life I will have these types of issues in the future and with the jobs that I will work in... but, it has gotten a little bit out of control. Not necessarily that I'm being treated badly, but my safety is being jeopardized by the time I have to arrive and the fact that my boss wasn't even letting me lock the door in the mornings when I was there by myself. It's a long story and I don't need advise on this job. Bottom line is that I had to quit. I also have to focus on school too because I am planning on going to law school and I need to have good grades. I've ...
