FAFSA Questions

Posted Monday January 2 2012, 1:20 am

Hi!
I need help. I have been told that the sooner to you submit your FAFSA the more money you get. Is it possible to submit your FAFSA with taxes from last year and then go back when you file taxes this year and edit the FAFSA?

Someone told me it was possible, but I just wanted to make sure.

Thank you!

Hey, I'm looking for some good, legit scholarship websites that are easy enough to apply to. All the ones I've been applying to have surveys and ads that they want me to fill out. Even if I have to write an essay, I'm willing to do so. Thanks in advance for an suggestions!

textbook help

Posted Thursday December 29 2011, 2:22 pm

Hi, I'm searching online for cheap textbooks for my classes and I'm having a lot of trouble finding reasonable prices. Ive been to abebooks, chegg, and a few other sites but the used books are still disgustingly priced, and I'm not interested in renting. Do any of you know any other sites that will sell books for CHEAP, and not just say they're "cheap". I don't care if the book is falling apart as long as I can read the print. I just cant afford anything else. Thanks..

not sure which college

Posted Tuesday December 20 2011, 10:25 pm

Socially, which college is more fun, the University of Maryland-College Park or the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor? I have heard that michigan is SO competitive and there are lots of spoiled Long Islanders. I'm from ny and hoping to get away from that crowd. on the other hand, i've heard maryland isnt as spirited and fun as michigan. any insight?

Questions About College

Posted Thursday December 15 2011, 12:37 am

So, I'm a senior in high school. Obviously it's only December so we're only about 1/3 done with school but teachers are pressuring us to get all our college applications done by Christmas break, which is coming up in a few days. My problem is I wanted to be a Pediatrician and that was my set goal, but now i don't know because i don't want to be in school for 11 more years. Then i considered a counselor but i don't want to be upset all the time wanting to help all these people when legally i can't help as much as i'd like. So i'm stuck with my whole solid career choice. And i was thinking of going to a community college for 2 years and then transferring to a university so i can get both experiences and save money. So in that case do i still ...

Deciding what way to go in my life

Posted Wednesday December 7 2011, 9:47 pm

I'm torn. I'm kind of a Renaissance woman. I'm not extremely good at one thing, but I'm pretty good at a lot of things. I LOVE fashion, orchestral music, math, and science. I'm so torn because my interests are so varied that I cannot find a particular area that satisfies the majority of my interests. I'm studying science in school, but I'm losing my interest for it. I'm beginning to want to be a fashion stylist because that is where my true passion lies. However, I could also see myself being a doctor because I love that, I just am really not liking science in school right now. I also want a profession that I can have responsibility and power. I love having power. I don't know what direction I should go in in life. What passion should I fol...

Self loathing

Posted Wednesday December 7 2011, 11:01 am

I'm not sure if I put my question in the correct category, but it seems as good a place as any. I am at University, in my third year studying Englis Literature and Sociology. I am struggling with how I feel-I usually get ok grades, sometimes outstanding ones, but I worry all the time that my work isn't good enough, and I never think that I am doing/have done enough. I wish I could work harder, but I can't seem to make myself. I waste time stressing when I could be studying. I also have a lot of low self esteem related stuff-I feel pretty dingy about myself, and that other people must be laughing at me, and think that I'm boring and stupid.

The sad thing is that reading this, you'd probably guess that I was in...

University of Maryland

Posted Tuesday November 29 2011, 7:49 pm

Whats the inside scoop on the University of Maryland-College Park? How is the spirit there? How's the hype for games? How's the night life? I know that the education is what I want in a university, but I'm not sure if the "fun" factor is all there. Pros? Cons? Thanks

Does a college check your twitter account?

Posted Monday November 28 2011, 8:23 pm

Can a college see your twitter profile if you have it set on private? And do colleges even check Twitter? I don't have have a Facebook (deactivated it months ago) but I'm always worried that colleges will find a way to check my tweets even though they are private. I don't have anything serious on twitter, but a lot of my tweets are basically complaining! If colleges can see that, I'm ready to deactivate that too.

Current academics standing, possible future academic standings, and Grad Sc

Posted Wednesday November 16 2011, 11:44 am

Hypothetical situation: I have 8 w grades from classes required for my major and 4 w grade from those unrelated to my major. I decide to change my major, do well in it, get recommendations, do good on GRE, write good admission essay. What would the chances of getting accepted to a Graduate program be then? Please refrain from giving answers that have statements such as "wow that's a lot of W's"

Do colleges look at yoursenior year grades after they accept you?

Posted Saturday November 12 2011, 6:37 pm

Do they check on your grades to see if your failing even though they accept you?
Would it matter to them if I failed an elective that I don't need to graduate because you I have enough credits?
I have enough credits but my highs school won't allow me to drop classes and my gpa is 3.8. Would colleges care if I failed an elective like Jrotc?

Will I get accepted into college?

Posted Friday November 11 2011, 5:42 am

I am a really hard worker but I am not very smart. I need to study SO hard to get a B in subjects like math and science. I am better at English and other subjects.
I am in Advanced Algebra (or Algebra II) and I am a senior. Its pretty low- I should at least be in Trig. There's a few other seniors too.
I was supposed to take chemistry this year (since it was the first time I would be able to because of the math level) BUT the school I just moved to did not have any more space and I was so mad because I couldn't switch my other classes! I am taking another science and next semester I might too. In total my sciences I've taken are: Physical science, Biology, Biotechnology, forensic science right now and next sem another one lik...

Will colleges care if I fail one class on my transcript?

Will colleges care if I fail one class on my transcript if I make good grades in my other classes?
I have all of the credits I need to graduate high school. My Gpa is 3.8 and I'm doing good in all of my classes except for JROTC, I don't need to pass this class because I have enough credits, but will colleges care if I just fail this class, but I pass all of my others?

I want to try and get into a certain college but I don't think I will

Posted Monday October 31 2011, 10:20 pm

I am 17, senior in high school, female. My number one choice of college is West Chester University for elementary education. I was so carefree last year that I didn't take my SAT's, so I took them for my first time senior year. Please don't tell me I'm stupid or that I'm dumb but I received at 1350. West Chester wants for math and critical reading a 1020 which when mine added together is 930. Everybody says that SAT scores are what colleges look at most but there are also other things they look at. Should I try to apply and get in at West Chester or should I start my first year in my community college and try my second year to get in at West Chester? My brother's girlfriend currently goes to her community college and she then gets the oppor...

failing community college

Posted Friday October 28 2011, 4:40 am

I have attended community college for about 3 years now. During those three years i have accomplished nothing. My transcript consist of horrible grades and a couple of "w"s (withdrawals).. and since my major was undecided/undeclared for 3 years, i have taken classes from all sorts of major (got bad grades in most of them) im 20 now and have finally decided i want to get into the medical field as a nurse or a doctor. since i cant retake classes i got a "c" in, im wondering if my chances of getting into a medical school is screwed because of the many "c"s?

ps. not worried about d's and f's since i can retake them.

What would the pros and cons be of moving states even though it is much closer than the missouri colleges i was looking at? and can someone explain that area if it is worse than greater saint louis i am from?

medical field jobs with less schooling

Posted Tuesday October 25 2011, 9:25 pm

I want to have a job in the medical field but I can’t be in school too long, not enough money. I was thinking pharmacist or researcher or oncologist or art therapist, is there anything along those lines that can take around 6 years or less to be up and working, done with school and making enough money to pay back/live? I am a senior in high school
