service sororities in college and what else?

Posted Sunday April 8 2012, 4:52 pm

I am going to college soon and having a really hard time with the idea of leaving my friends and moving out. So i was told to join clubs. I tend to only hangout with guys though. I really want to break that habit and join an all girl sorority although i am not really the partier, what is a service sorority? Could that be what i am looking for or is there something better for me? I am more for sports for fun, art of all kinds, and just a really chill person not too wild.

how do make new friends in college?

Posted Sunday April 8 2012, 4:47 pm

I know there is many people out there in my same situation, and people who have already gone through this, so everyone's advice is welcome. I am graduating my high school in under a month and going straight into one college then in August i am moving out to a college four hours away with no car. I am scared out of my mind and really don't want to leave all my friends I have finally gotten really close to this year. Each of us is going to a different college hours or states away. Transitioning into high school from grade school I lost touch with all my old friends, so how do i prevent that from happening with my high school friends? Also, how do I make new friends? I am extremely shy when I don't know people but I eventually open up, so it w...

Tutor trouble? My friend and I got into a fight with him?

Posted Saturday March 10 2012, 9:20 pm

Pardon my grammar if you find any. Sometimes it is hard to concentrate or think sraight when you’re angry. Just writing about it makes me angry.
Plus it's a long story, but this issue is kinda serious. Please bare with me. :/

Yesterday my friend and I got into a fight with a lab tutor, verbally. This incident took place inside the chemistry computer lab/ study room. So we were both working on our lab reports that needed to be turn in later that day.(About my lab partner, she’s extremely shy and quiet but she is very generous person. I used to be very shy like that too back in grade school, but now I’ve got over it since I begin to socialize more and grew more ambiverted like now. Anyways, back to the story.) W...

Scholarships : Masters degree in the UK

Posted Tuesday March 6 2012, 11:18 am

Hi,

I have applied for the Masters programme in finance to few universities in the UK. Two of which are in the top 10. I am likely to get an offer soon, however I have just found out that I am not eligible for a loan of 18,000 GBP.

I am an Indian, graduate in commerce with good scores , and I do possess 2.5 years of relavant work experience.

I have not applied for a scholarship yet. I would require a full scholarship atleast covering full tuition fees. Will I be eligible for one? and what organisations provide such scholarships? Other than British Chevening/commonwealth which I am considering applying.

Transfer to college out of state

Posted Friday March 2 2012, 2:40 pm

Okay so I plan to transfer out of state for college. My mom makes about 26,000 a year and she supports a family of 6. I feel out of place to ask her if she could drive me to whatever school I plan to go to, for financial reasons. I graduated HS about 2 yrs ago and I went to a university in state and I hated it. I made alot of friends but, I just wasn't happy there. Now I am at a community college and I want to enter the fall 2012 which will be my junior year, happily. I am very unhappy of my whereabouts and I want to be content with the decision I make. I always envisioned myself going out of MA for school.I've looked into transferring somewhere in the Mid- Atlantic region or the south. I would love to see the opportunities that are availab...

I need help with the FAFSA?

Posted Wednesday February 29 2012, 7:19 pm

I got a letter from financial Aid offices of the school I'm going to next year and they said I need to send them a letter explaining how my family survives on a certain income and what kind of assistance they get from others and what they spend on bills. It also says I have to send signed documents or they will be unable to process my financial aid. It just says send signed documents and a letter. What kind of documents do they want?

Do colleges look at your ESL records?

Posted Sunday February 26 2012, 12:41 pm

I've been in ESL class since 6th grade. Now i am a freshman in high school. My teacher told me that it's not good for when colleges look at your information if the record shows you had been in ESL for over 3 years. Is it true? Do colleges really care about it? Also, if it's true, I already had 4 years of ESL class, but 3 years was in middle school, i heard that colleges don't look back your middle school record. Does it means my 3 years of ESL won't count in my high school record?

Messing up my first semester and now dealing with the consequences.

Posted Saturday February 25 2012, 9:52 am

Long story short- I did not do so well during my first semester in university, purely my own fault and I do not blame anyone or anything but myself.
However, now I have to deal with the consequences and work ultra hard until summer to make sure I pass everything and get a passing grade to finish this first year at university...

However, the more I think about what's happened, the more depressed I feel. I'm on the verge of having a break down, which I've already had before and I feel like I've really ruined my life for myself.

What would be the best way to progress from this depressing state? As I know I will manage to finish the year properly..but whenever I think about it I just want to burst into tears...

michigan vs maryland

Posted Sunday February 19 2012, 2:09 pm

i got into michigan- ann arbor and maryland- college park. im stuck between both. im not really concerned about the prestige of the schools because i think theyre both good. i'm more concerned about the social aspect. ive heard the people attending michigan are either really snooty or sort of nerdy. i go to a very snooty high school where many people are very wealthy, and i've spent my whole entire life trying to weed out the snooty people to find the few normal, nice ones. i dont know if mich will be just like that. also, ive heard in michigan people are extremely competitive about school work and there is an uptight atmosphere in that respect. on the other hand, i've heard that michigan is sooo much more fun than maryland, and is all together a better place. any thoughts?

School of Visual Arts VS University of the Arts

Posted Thursday February 16 2012, 2:43 pm

So i have been looking into both of these schools so far, and they both have really good programs for illustarion which id like to major in (minor in graphic design if ever possible, which is not in SVA).
Im asking if anyone knows the best school between these two. In the future id like to become a concept artist for video games (thats the main goal). Im not sure which would be the best however.
SVA offers a rigorous course, in NYC, they dont allow double majoring--and i have a slight fear of the subway system and the overall rushed feel

UArts is also widely known in Philly, it is a more urban area som im more comfortable with it. howver, i fear they dont have quite the most vigorous course that i seek.

Maybe changing my mind about my future!

Posted Thursday February 9 2012, 8:01 pm

Hey, I am 17, female, senior in high school. First off, I had applied to two colleges with the intent of minoring in elementary ed. Both colleges have yet to reply to me. I am taking it as a sign that my major is filled or I just suck and they don't want me. Whichever it is, I am honestly looking at it as a sign. Don't tear me apart for what I am going to say next but I believe that not getting into the colleges on my initial major is God's way of telling me that's not what I should be doing with my life. I am re-thinking about becoming a baker, I had talked to my mom the other day after I had spent a good four hours making cupcakes and she said I should take baking classes and go to culinary school if I don't leave for college. That got me...

Living in college dorms?

Posted Monday January 30 2012, 4:37 am

I went to college in Fall 2010 and lived in the dorms. Started out bad but ended up absolutely loving it! Very social, meeting new people, coed, dining halls, walking distance to classes and gym. After freshman year I dropped out to move home for beauty school. Was half way through beauty school when I had to drop out for surgery.
Anyways, I am now considering going back to college this fall for my sophomore year. I would be a junior if I never left, so all my friends there are gonna be juniors. Since I left, I went back to visit old dorm friends often, but noticed they have all made so many other new friends this past year while I was back at home. Andd I have been so bored and lonely since moving back home.

University of Michigan- Ann Arbor

Posted Sunday January 22 2012, 3:42 pm

I was accepted to the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. I've heard there are a lot of spoiled Long Island New Yorkers. Im from that area and I've grown up in that atmosphere and I'm looking to divert from that population. What do you know about the people who go to Michigan? What cons do you know of the University? Pros? Thanks

spring break 2012

Posted Wednesday January 4 2012, 9:30 am

This spring break my friends and I would like to plan a trip to a vacation spot, we were thinking cancun, mexico or daytona beach, florida. None of us have ever planned a group spring break trip, so I volunteered to plan everything. Does anyone have any advice for me? Any recommendations for party packages? websites that have good deals? We are willing to pay a little extra for a good package rather than a cheap package that is horrible. Does anyone have previous experience planning a spring break group trip and can help me? thanks!! :)
