Annoying mom. Posted Tuesday July 10 2012, 3:54 pm
I am 17, f and am moving into college August 25th. My mom has been begging me to get a job for a while, I have tried to only be turned down every time because I am not 18. Well, she just filled out an application for a job in my hometown and expects me to travel home on weekends to work if I get the job. I told her I don't think I can handle getting used to college life that quick, get good grades, make new friends and travel to and fro to go to work on weekends and I even told her that I don't think I would be able to come home that much because I have to keep a 3.0 to be able to stay in my major, yet she still filled out the application.. herself. I can't come home to work on weekends, while trying to do reading work or writing a paper. ....

Sociology Major. Posted Wednesday June 20 2012, 2:42 am
I was an elementary education major to which I realized my heart was not fully into. So I recently changed my major to sociology. My neighbor said that wasn't very smart because I have to do a lot of schooling for that. I read I can complete four years of schooling to earn my bachelors and still get just as many jobs as a normal person. Now, I'm nervous about my choice to major in sociology. Please help me out. Are you in sociology? Did you hear sociology majors do a lot of school or are unhappy? Thank you!

Can a school cover your finances in full? Posted Saturday June 16 2012, 8:31 pm
I heard that if you talk to a counselor at a school you want to go, they can cover all your expenses if you can't pay yourself. Is that true? I can get a Pell Grant but I may need extra money.

American History Posted Tuesday June 12 2012, 4:27 pm
Hello.
I am British, and am studying American History.
I know that most of the users on this website are from the USA, and so maybe those who have studied History may be able to throw a little knowledge and experience into the mix.
I am studying, "USA, 1980-1945" (focusing on all aspects i.e. Economics, Politics, Society, and Foreign Policy) and "USA & Vietnam, 1961-1975". We are given textbooks that focus solely on the syllabus, as well as a reading list of books.
I suspect that American History is taught better in the USA, like British History is taught much better in the United Kingdom. So to anyone who has studied American History (at any level), are...

What should I do for my educational future? Posted Friday June 8 2012, 3:59 pm
I'm not from north america. That's for starters. I really wan't to be succesful in college and have a good life. But I don't know what I should study that I would like but that could also help me in economy. I LOVE to write and draw and was thinking about journalism but I like it better in English. Where I'm from universities don't cost as much as in U.S. but there is nothing that has to do with what I like AND in English. I'm 16 but tons of people keep telling me that I need to choose from now and I know they are right. It also scares me going to college and ending up miserable.

Which Masters Program? Posted Monday June 4 2012, 12:36 am
I want to tell you what my dream job is in hopes that you can tell me a masters program that you find would fit this description. It is very similar to a psychologist or a speech pathologist. Basically, I want to work with kids who have learning disabilities. I want to help them with their homework and studying but from a psychological perspective, based off of cognitive skills and memory improvement skills that you learn in psychology, versus just basic tutoring. What would you say that this is?
I have looked up Educational Psychology, but it is more towards the path of school counseling, which isn't what I want to do. I want to have like my own practice, but focus on education, rather than just counseling. If counseling is ...

Textbook Issue Posted Sunday May 6 2012, 12:23 pm
Female - 21 years old
I'm nearing the end of my first semester of college (I took a break from school for a little while), one thing that I've noticed is that the textbooks that I carry to tend around a lot have become damaged; the situation is to the point that pages have fallen out of all of my paperback textbooks. I have not been able to find hardcover textbooks (although I know that they exist), and paperback textbooks are already expensive enough - I'm currently unemployed and most of my school stuff is taken out of my own money, I'm currently unemployed, or my mother's who is on disability. I want to be able to take good enough care of the textbooks that I can't find available for rental, so that I can sell them for cas...

They all are expecting me to stay close to the city. The only thing is that I don't feel safe in this city. There are so many threats, partly because there are so many creepy people in this city. being a girl, I take all precautions that I can (hiding my hair and covering myself up) I have never been in a serious situation but have been very close to many. With that, I hate this city. I never feel safe in this place because my life is always in danger. I have experienced too many situations where my life could have ended, but I'm smart and that is how Iv...

Medical future- serious answers only Posted Monday April 16 2012, 6:18 pm
19/f
I am just about finishing my first year of college :) I have done a lot of research about what I am interested in and I have come to the conclusion that I would like to work in the medical field for the rest of my future. I've tried narrowing the subject down and have come to a few results- either a medical technician/technologist or a medical scientist. Basically, I would love to work in a hospital/doctors office and work in the laboratory doing research and analyzing things such as cells, body fluids and such. I would also love to come up with research and experiments in order to find new cures or enhance current ones (aka the medical scientist career).
Now i'm having trouble knowing what to major in an...

Embracing Medicine Posted Friday April 13 2012, 10:13 pm
I'm 21 at the moment, was recently accepted into a medical college. Just about to finish a science degree, I'm not sure if I really want to do medicine or not, but it appears the only good career pathway with the current economic situation and the pressures from family.
Was wondering if anyone could give me some career advice, about the long term effects of doing it, does it mean my own personal life is over?
