Where to study? Posted Monday November 19 2012, 8:25 pm
I'm currently a college student living in a rental home with my friends. My grades haven't been the greatest the past year and I'm really trying hard to get better in school. Something I noticed is that I have terribly study habits. I hate studying in quiet, I always need some kind of noise around me, whether its music, tv, people talking etc. I can never study for more than 30 minutes straight, otherwise I get off track and antsy. So i'm trying to get a new study habit. I've tried studying at my school library, but most of the time I get sidetracked and look for people I know. Plus, I hate walking all the way there and back. I've tried studying in my room in my house, but I live in the basement alone and its too quiet. If I turn on my musi...

Is 18 too many credit hours for a freshman? Posted Sunday November 11 2012, 8:53 pm
This was my first semester, but due to credits gained in high school I will be a sophomore next semester. I took 16 credit hours this semester, and I admit I had a lot of issue managing time, but I believe part of that is getting used to college and getting used to having a social life. I am willing to work on managing my time better and working on homework more next semester. My adviser said I should take 15 or 16 credit hours. I was thinking 18 and getting a start on my minor. I am a communication major, so next semester I will be in 2 comm classes, health, spanish 201, and an honors class on cross cultural experience. I was thinking of taking psychology 101 because I was thinking of having a psych minor. What are your thoughts? Do you think it will be too hard to take those classes?

Help with UC Prompt #2? Posted Tuesday November 6 2012, 1:18 am
The prompt is: Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?
I was planning on writing about a volunteer experience I had over the summer. I volunteered at UCR with one of their summer international programs and basically helped lead groups of students around, formed lasting friendships with kids from all over the world, helped teach them about American culture, improved their English, etc. I was planning on writing about my interest in foreign cultures and improving my leadership skills and being able to form bonds with so many diverse people.

Is it too late to study now ? Posted Sunday November 4 2012, 10:24 am
M/18, India
I am a student of class 12th and after 4 months I will be giving competitive exams for admission to prestigious engineering colleges of India.
But there's a serious problem. I have not been a sincere student. I have not studied sincerely and enthusiastically for the last 11 and a half years. Now when I look forward, I see no hopes of topping the All-India level examinations with a good rank. However, I would like to put forward one fact-
I really want to get a high rank in All-India level examination.
I would like to ask you, having only 4 months at hand and a lot of chapters in various subjects to be studied when it's time to revise, should I hope to get a good rank or am I just making myself fool....

College major and career end result Posted Thursday November 1 2012, 3:04 am
Hi I'm a 27 year old college student at Koopagirl@gmail.com
For the longest time I've bounced around from college to college and for the past few years of my life have researched and researched what I'd like to major in as well as do as a career for a bachelors degree. I've thought about majoring in English for an associates degree and then going on to study foreign languages since I love learning about french and Japanese and have a dream of teaching English over seas. I am an American and also thought about majoring in Math although I don't like the side jobs for teaching that come along with math, for example my english major friends teach english online and over seas to children and adults where as my math teacher friends do acco...

Dorming? Posted Tuesday October 16 2012, 12:03 am
Hey 19/f
So i'm going to be transfering to a college that is about 40 minutes away from my house, so the commute is relatively short. However recently i've been feeling like i'm missing out on an important part of my life... not dorming and everything. If i were to dorm it would be a lot easier because then i wouldn't have to deal with bridge traffic (I live in new york).
I am in my second year at a community college and am totally miserable because I have no friends. Everyone literally goes to class and goes home.... I am kind of shy but i'm not that shy! I feel like I am missing out on a part of my life I am meant to experience at my age. I guess I just want some advice and info about what dorming is like from experience. I...

Wanting to Major In Dentistry? Posted Monday October 15 2012, 9:34 pm
I'm currently a junior in high school. I plan on majoring in dentistry when I graduate, but I'm not exactly sure how I should go about it.
Right now I'm enrolled in AP classes, and I'm taking classes like Biomedical Careers that will give me my CNA by the end of the school year. The type of high school that I'm enrolled in will let me take college classes for credit my senior year as well.
So the next thing that I'm sure of is what classes I'm to take during college. Is there a such thing as per-dentistry classes? What are they?
I also can't decide what college I'm trying to attend. I've narrowed it down to several colleges in state (NC). One option is to go to UNC Chapel Hill since they have a g...

More undergrad or grad school Posted Monday October 15 2012, 4:46 pm
I am going absolutely crazy trying to make this decision. When I first started college, I wanted to study psychology. I didn't want to be a psychologist, but I wanted to study psychology, at least starting off. Then, something happened. I came to the realization almost halfway through college that I wanted to be a teacher. Since I started college, I have been through quite a few things. The day before starting, my parents told me I was adopted and this year, my cousin, who was more like my brother, passed away at 19 from cancer. I have also lost two pets. Those of you who have pets can understand that it's quite difficult. So, last semester, all I wanted to do was finish school. I just wanted to move on to grad school or go to another unive...

steps to becoming a doctor Posted Monday October 8 2012, 12:11 pm
14/f
Right now, I'm a sophomore in high school, and I'm starting to think about what I want to do after the rest of high school and college. My mom has always pressured me into becoming a doctor. As a result, I took a intro into medical science class last year that I really had fun in it. I realized that I love learning about how the human body works. Now, I actually want to go to medical school (this isn't some rash decision I've made; I've thought about it for awhile and I'm serious about it). I just have some questions about it that my parents can't really answer, so I'll list them below:
1) Is there anything in high school that I could do that will help prepare me for medical school? If so, what is it and how...

I need help making friends in college. Posted Friday October 5 2012, 2:45 pm
I am going to a school very far away from home in the city. I come from a rural town and now the mass populous was overwhelming. So now I don't know anyone here and I can't make any friends. Back home I didn't have to try because I had my buddies I grew up with. This is getting hard though, I feel depressed and lonely and can't figure out how to solve it. I am a open guy once you get to me and I'm very intelligent, but I feel like everyone thinks I'm strange or weird. I've lost a lot of weight just because I don't want to go the dining halls. I feel like it's rude to invite myself to things with strangers like my parents keep telling me to do. I need some help fast please.

should I continue schooling? Posted Tuesday October 2 2012, 2:07 am
So I'm a Pharmacy Technician student currently in a 9 month program at a community college. My school offers a 2 year degree program and for a while I've been contemplating if I should do it or just get the certification.
Reasons for it: I wanna be more qualified. I wanna have a better chance at getting jobs in the future. Not just tech jobs, but like management tech jobs...stuff like that.
Reasons against it: As much as I like school, I wanna work. School is expensive. And frankly, I don't wanna continue more schooling when I don't have to. Oh and the program I'm in is nationally accredited, if that helps for some reason.
I don't want any preaching about college, please. I just want honest op...

Should I respond with my true religion for a study abroad application? Posted Monday October 1 2012, 6:17 pm
I filled out a study abroad application a few weeks back for a study abroad course for Theology 101. Our interviews were a few days ago and we do not find out about whether we were accepted or not until around this Wednesday.
The problem: when I wrote my essay and while I was at the interview I thought the interviewers were seeking students who had a strong Roman Catholic background as they would probably benefit more from the course abroad, so I went that route since I am Roman Catholic; however, the problem lies in the fact that I also identify myself as an Agnostic but I did not say anything about it in my essay or at the interview since I thought they were seeking strong Catholics.
The root of this problem ...
