Hiring Techniques

Posted Sunday June 3 2012, 8:56 pm

Hello everyone,

I have just been put in a position where I am going to be responsible for part of the hiring of new employees and I am terrified! You would think I would be excited about the promotion, and I guess I am, but what if I hire someone who steals, or is just not a good employee? OK enough of my fears and on to my question:

What are the best hiring techniques you know of? Are there any good books or training courses you can recommend to me? Just kind of a beginner's guide to best hiring practices would be good to start.

I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences with me.

"Reason for Leaving"

Posted Friday June 1 2012, 9:11 am

I remember learning in high school that you don't bad-mouth your last job to your interviewer. But what about those job applications that include "Reason for leaving". What are all the acceptable things to put?

These are my reasons for leaving. Its not something I would put on paper or say directly to my interviewer but just to put it out:
My supervisor does not act like a supervisor
The management is awful
The workplace cared more about the quanitity than the quality (hired people with illegal pay)
And cheating employees of many other rights.

Honesty on Applications

Posted Wednesday May 2 2012, 4:25 pm

Is there anyway for businesses to use your social security number to go and find out how many times you have actually been fired? I used to lie and didn't have any problems, I decided to be honest and then they didn't hire me...There is no foul play or anything, just firings from little two bit jobs that aren't even on my resume. Thank you.

Too many interests to pick a career

Posted Tuesday April 10 2012, 10:57 am

I'm in my senior year of high school. I've pretty much chosen a university, but I'm really confused about what career to pick. I have so many different interests and I would major in everything in college if I could.

My career options include: veterinarian, writer, illustrator, special ed teacher, speech pathologist, graphic designer, something with films, book editor, journalist, publisher, owning a bakery, and a lot of other things. So lots of choices lol. My number one choice would be a wildlife rehabilitator, but they make little, if any, money, since it's usually voluntary work, and money is a factor for me.

I know that I still have time to change my career, but I don't want to waste money on a year or two...

Here's the thing. I'll be starting high school next year, and I have absolutely no idea what I'd like to do in University. I know, I know, the first thing that comes to mind is something along the lines of "You have so much time to plan for the future, just relax and enjoy life, kid." I'm simply wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

I've always liked math and science, and, not to brag, but I've done very well in both this year. Actually, all of my marks were above 95%. I am fluent in both English and French.

I am very squemish when it comes to most medical situations, such as surgery, vaccinations, bloodwork, etc. I dislike public speaking, and I'm the farthest thing from artistic or cr...
