Where can I find a penguin in the state of New York

Posted Wednesday August 1 2012, 11:56 am

My favorite animal is a penguin, and I've been doing lots of research on them lately and I have what it needs to own one, but all the websites I've looked at just say to go to a different website and then that website has nothing to do with penguins. I dont need to know if it's even possible on owning a penguin is New York. So i decided to ask if anyone on this website knew anything about owning a penguin

Issues with recurring mange in cats

Posted Monday July 30 2012, 6:03 pm

Hello, we have three cats in our house and a recurring problem with what appears to be mange. The source seems to be a cat across the road, which my mum says has a bad case. Unfortunately, we don't know who owns him (or if he even has an owner) and he's only seen occasionally. They've been treated before, but two of them are now showing symptoms again. The third seems fine but I don't want to take any risks.

My mum seems hesitant to get them all treated again because 1: she can't afford it, 2: we can't stop them catching it again from that other cat and 3: she insists that they will 'get better', though what I've read suggests that is impossible.

I'm currently unemployed having just got back from uni, but still...

Raising a baby Betta fish!

Posted Tuesday July 17 2012, 12:54 am

About 3 days ago I bought a baby Betta fish and I've been Google'ing and looking up how to take care of it and prevent it from getting constipated and all the like.
It's already gotten constipated once and I've just been getting mixed answers from every place I've looked on.
If anyone knows EXACTLY what I need to do and how to take perfect care of it, please do let me know. :)!

My golden retriever... My brother... My protecter...

Posted Monday June 18 2012, 11:51 am

Ok so my golden retriever is 2 1/2 and he has hip dysplasia in both of his hips... His vet told him to go on a diet and lose some of his weight. But I was so confused when my parents told me he had it in both hips... So I was just wondering... Will he die young? How much time does he have left? (He is also a very big boy. His bones grew faster than his body did)

I'm 19 years old, and my Dad won't let me have a kitten!

Posted Thursday June 14 2012, 10:20 pm

Seriously! And, I'm not even allowed to move out because my parents will get all offended, and it's not in their culture to have kids living alone. Plus, I clearly can't afford living on my own.

UGH. I've always wanted a kitten since I was a little girl. I found one last summer but my dad made me give him away.

What can I do to convince him?

My kitten is losing fur in a strange manner

Posted Wednesday June 13 2012, 3:49 pm

My kitten is about a month old. He seems healthy enough, bright-eyed and energetic. He eats and drinks well and his litter box gets the appropriate amount of action.
His right paw in the back is the appendage in question where the fur loss is happening. There seems to be a scabbing of sorts underneath the fur in that area with no previous injuries and then it comes off. The skin is entirely bare in that spot now. There is no bleeding and it doesn't seem to bother him too much but nevertheless, it does not look pleasant. And it doesn't seem like anything I've encountered in my searches so far, does anyone have any ideas?

My 6 week old kitten has lost big patches of fur

Posted Friday June 8 2012, 11:51 am

I have agreed to take on a kitten that has had significant hair loss. Thyroid isn't swollen, she eats and drinks well and plays fine with the other kittens. her skin is soft and supple, no sign of flakeynes or dander. Im sure she will need to see a vet but i was wondering if anyone has dealt with this one (seemly) symptom and what the outcome was. Thank you

My puppy has a swollen Vulva; how can I soothe her?

Posted Monday May 28 2012, 11:53 pm

Hi there.

I have a 8 month old 'Teacup' yorkie, and her vulva is swollen, very badly.

I'm aware that she's starting to go in heat; and after talking with her Vet; I'm going to wait ti'll after her 21 day cycle, to get her fixed (due to complications, excess blood, ect while in heat)

But the question I'm wanting to know, is how can I soothe her? I know how I feel when I'm on my period; and I know they aren't SIMILAR; But I also know she is going to be anxious and stressed; and I would like to know how can I make it easy for her, becasue it'll be her first.

Her vagina is swollen pretty badly; and every time I touch it to make sure she isn't bleeding yet, she freaks out and starts cry...

pet rat will not stop biting.

Posted Saturday May 26 2012, 10:19 am

a week ago, my wife, N and i decided to adopt two female rats, R and T. i'm not sure how old they are, but i got them from petco. only after did i read somewhere where it said that petco rats are usually feeder rats. we got R two hours before deciding to buy T, and she seemed to be traumatized from being in a too-small cage with N and i just staring at her. she also bit me on the way home, and it bled a lot. eventually, we upgraded their surroundings to a rat's standards and bought everything we needed to keep a rat healthy, happy, and safe. now its a week later and our relationship with the rats is improving. T will let N and i pet her constantly, they are both grinding their teeth a lot, they don't hide as often, and they seem to recogniz...

House rabbit litter training

Posted Friday May 25 2012, 2:49 am

Please do not awnser if you do not have experience with having a house rabbit.

I have had a rabbit for a month now. I pretty much rescued him from a friend who just wasn't taking proper care of him. He was kept in a tiny cage. I built him a C&C cage that even has a little deck and he has plenty of room.

I have had a lot of progress with my bun bonding wise. But, this past week he has almost stopped using his litter box. He was not litter trained when I got him but I immediatly started training him and we made alot of progress. I had him to where he would always pee and mostly poop in his box. He would only sometimes poop on the top level of his cage.

Now he is pooping AND peeing all over th...

My cat is so jumpy!

Posted Monday May 7 2012, 9:38 pm

Hi there.
I'm hoping someone has some ideas. My kitty is four years old, female, and spayed. She and I live alone, and if there's any kind of a sudden noise, or anything that might sound remotely like hissing, especially from outside, she's a big ball of poof.
These noises can be anything from the sound of rain to a car driving past our apartment. She's actually afraid of outside. I've never worried about her or put a collar on her because if you open a door that leads out of the apartment, she'll run the other direction.
If she was a human, I'd call it generalized anxiety disorder with agoraphobia. She's been like this since I adopted her as an 11-week old kitten. She's never been abused, or anything...
I don...

Husky Puppy Howls

Posted Monday April 23 2012, 7:04 am

After doing much research my husband and I bought a husky this past weekend. He is 13 weeks old and seemed to pick up using the puppy pads fairly quickly. His owner before him said that she put him in a crate when she was at work so about 8 hours. When my husband leaves for work he has to put Duke in his crate. But Duke just howls and howls. We've tried the water bottle trick, covering the crate, and leaving some music on for him but it doesn't seem to help. I'm moving there in 19 days(my husband is in the military so that's why we're apart) so it won't matter then because I'll be able to take care if him but we just need a temporary solution. We live in an apartment complex but we've talked to the neighbors about him already. We just want ...

What Kind Of Bug Was This?

Posted Saturday April 14 2012, 1:47 am

I was cleaning my room at midnight because I'm not tired at all and on the bottom of my wall I saw a large bug. It looked whiteish and about the size of a lrage cockroach. It crunched a lot when I killed it with a box but right now I'm too scared to look at it and am wondering what kind of bug it was, if there are more, and what I should do because I really hate bugs and I'm paranoid right now. Thanks!
