Hired to Work on Campus

Posted Tuesday April 16 2013, 4:49 pm

18 and female. I am a college freshman currently but I was hired to work on campus for my sophomore year and couldn't be more excited. I had gotten into the Housing and Residence Life Team at my school because my CA and a lot of the desk receptionists greatly impacted my first year at school. I became friends with a lot of the staff. My question is how can I continue to make an impact in my freshman next year like they did for me? I want to be a cool desk receptionist but I also want them to know that I am stern because I do want to be liked and approachable, I want them to come to me with their problems like I do with my staff now. My desk receptionists are pretty cool, they do weird things all the time and I think that's what drew me to t...

6-8 year medical programs

Posted Saturday February 23 2013, 9:12 pm

14/f
I'm currently a sophomore in high school, and for most of my life I've wanted to be a doctor. I've taken several medical classes in school and have done a lot of research about different medical careers that have helped me decide that this is really what I want to do for the rest of my life. I've been talking to my parents recently about college because I believe it's never to early to think about it, and I recently found out about joint medical programs at some universities where you can do 2 years undergrad and the go straight into med school. Does anybody know of a list that has all the colleges that offer these programs or just some more information about it over all? Also, if anybody on here has done one of these programs, any personal experiences. Thanks in advance!

I was dismissed from a masters program due to failure to meet academic expectations set forth in the clinical portion. I appealed the faculty's decision to the department chair on grounds that I was feeling anxious/depressed and not in the right place..but have since taken care of myself and feel determined to succeed. Since the faculty followed department policy, I was required to appeal to the dean of the college--- I provided documentation from my therapist, and a written appeal. I asked to meet in person, but have just received a letter stating that my appeal was denied and that I have the option of re-applying after one year.

At this point, I am willing to appeal to a higher level in the university. I have a few question...

Transcript sent in late?

Posted Sunday February 3 2013, 8:15 pm

I am a freshman in college. The school that I wish to transfer to has a very high acceptance rate and my GPA is higher than the average. I feel really good about my transfer application and I sent that in on time. However, my transcript is a bit late. The application deadline was February 1st and mine will not be sent until February 4th. I am really nervous that this will affect me and that I will not get in because of this. Should I be worried? My high school transcript and my application are in, the only thing missing is my college transcript.

I am to lazy for school but I need to finish it.

Posted Wednesday January 30 2013, 10:37 pm

Hi! I am a 19 year old, 3rd year college student taking up Film as my major. Nowadays, I am so very lazy to go to school and do all the school-required stuff. But I am not generally lazy. I mean, I work with my classmates for their projects and I also have an organization in my school where I commit most of my time to, but the school work itself is just so tiring and monotonous and I find no determination to do them anymore. I made it clear to myself that I need to finish school for my parents. They are a main concern. But I don't know what to do anymore. Well...I mean I really know what to do and that's to just work hard and all that but I have no clue how to start or where to get the motivation or ugh! I don't knoooww!

Do I have to have financial aid money to register for classes first?

Posted Saturday January 26 2013, 11:32 pm

I did my fafsa a few days ago and I saw my advisor and he told me to register for classes. So I registered for a class and the next day it was dropped. Does that count on transcript? Do I have to wait for my financial aid to come in to register for classes?

Masters Dismissal_ Appeal Process

Posted Saturday January 26 2013, 12:29 am

I recently got dismissed from a masters program in Speech-Language Pathology. I was in the clinical portion of the program, and since I did not pass my first internship, I had to remediate this semester. I was so lost, did not know what i wanted, fell into a dark place and had zero confidence and drive.

After trying hard to pull through and not making it, I had a major wake up call. For the first time in a very long time, I've been taking care of myself, have been doing yoga regularly, surrounding myself with positive people. I feel like a different person and have really turned my life around.

I wrote an appeal letter highlighting some of the above to the chair of the department, and unfortunately, she conferr...

Thanks!

Important factors that college admissions look for.

Posted Sunday January 6 2013, 3:43 pm

So I am a junior in high school but I feel really unprepared for senior year, when college apps start. My dream school is any Ivy League school in the East because I wanna be away from home, but I think I have a less likely chance of getting admitted because I have bad grades and I'm below the GPA average (I have a 3.0). I failed my SAT, which makes me frustrated and I hate the Critical Reading section, but I'm retaking again in February (hoping I get at least a 2100).
Any suggestions to help so I can make my college apps look "better" when it is my turn to apply? And I need leadership, so any suggestions on that?

Starting over this semester

Posted Tuesday January 1 2013, 11:15 pm

19/f

I am in my freshman year of college. I live in the suburbs and commute to my school, which is about 20 minutes from my home. During my first semester I had a lot of trouble making new friends. I have a few friends but it's hard to hang out with them since I am not really around much, and since I'm not there on the weekends. I feel so alone and every time I think about going back to school (I'm on break right now) I just feel a sense of dread.
I really want to be able to meet new people and start over this semester but I don't know how and I'm so anxious that it will always be this way and that I will always have no friends.
I was thinking about rushing a sorority this semester but I'm so scared that I won't...
