I'm not the smartest kid in the world, but not I'm not dumb either. I'm pretty much useless, though, and I don't have anything that would jump out at people, except... I do write. It's about the only thing I do with myself and I'm not exaggerating in the least bit when I say that I write day and night, from the time I get home from school to the time I get home. I carry a notebook with me everywhere just in case I'm hit with inspiration.
Well, everyone knows that I like writing, but no one ever supports me. My friends always brag about my writing, but it makes me feel like crap because I know that not a single one of them has ever read my writing. My parents haven't even read my writing and they do the same thing. I have offered them to read it, but they say they don't want to, it's a waste of time, they just don't care. I used to brush it off and just post my stuff online and I loved making new friends who loved my work and talked to me, but recently, it's beginning to bother me and my writing has also begun to fall apart and it's really hurting me. I'm feeling absolutely miserable because no one will help me or encourage me... Maybe I'm asking too much or something? And people aren't used to me asking for something? I don't mean to sound like a drama queen or anything, but I would like at least one person to say good job... (link)
The person who said that your friends and family aren't reading your work because you may not be as good as you think has no idea what she's talking about.

I'm a professional writer, and I suffer the same thing. My husband, sons, family, and most of my friends have never been interested in reading my work. I got a seven digit contract in 2001--even then, none of my family and friends read or showed the slightest interest in my work. They seemed more interested in my sudden success.

My writer friends experience the same thing. It's a frequent complaint on writer's forums. So rest assured that you're not alone.

I think our work is just too personal to our family and friends--maybe a little too much of us. And then, maybe they simply aren't interested in the particular genre we're writing. Most people only want to read what they have a passion for.

But have faith that it has nothing to do with the quality of your work or your ability. Focus on your work and your readers instead. That's really all that matters. And never quit believing in you.
