My friend sent me a chain letter that you have to send to 20 people or a ghost will kill you, and my mom said not to send chain letters They are the work of the devil. She made me delete it, and said anything about killing or bad luck crap is the devil. Is this true? (link)

So, by the sound of this question, you are torn between believing your mom, and believing a stupid bullcrap chain letter. Look, all those chain letters are stupid nonsense, and they are made up by bullies and trolls who tell lies to scare you into spamming the net with their junk. Think about it. If chain letters were real, not even bow and arrows, or guns or any weaponry would've been invented to carry out wars, because the human race would've wiped itself out simply by spreading chain letters long ago. If chain letters were real, computers would be treated as weapons of mass-destruction and not sold to the general public.

Chain letters are lies. The devil is often called the prince of darkness, or the father of lies. so you can reach a conclusion there. One thing I will say for sure is that chain letters don't come from God. And all you have to do is disbelieve chain letters and rest the devil - I'm sure your mom has taught you that, too.
Not everything can be thought of in terms as from the devil or not, but chain letters are a form of online bullying done by anonymous cowards who have managed to scare someone who has reposted one that you saw. Don't be scared like the person you saw repost it. Don't let online bullies get the better of you.

None of those pieces of lying trollish rubbish is true. every one of those chain letters is false, through and through. there are no consequences.
