The typical solution would be to see your doctor and take the prescribed medicines, but I do understand your discontent towards medications, as they tend to do more harm than good. I good home remedy for a cough and stuffy/runny nose is Cinnamon ginger honey tea. Sounds gross, yeah but surprisingly it tastes good. Spicy, but good. What you do is take 5 1/4 in thick cut slices of ginger, and bring it to a boil, allowing the juices from the ginger to dissolve into the water. Add 1/2 a stick of cinnamon and allow it to boil in there for about 5-7 minutes, once that time is up, remove from heat, and remove the cinnamon stick, leave the ginger in the liquid mixture, pour the liquid into a cup, add honey to taste and drink. But do be careful not to burn yourself, as it will be hot, but you'll want to drink it while it's very warm. You'll have to drink a few cups a day until you begin to feel better, but I have always found this remedy to help with the common cold and even fevers.

Powdered ginger yes, powdered cinnamon, I've never tried it that way. You could give it a shot, but I believe the stick will be best as it easily dissolves in water.. I can't say that about powdered cinnamon though.
