I watch Parental control and I can't help but think that the show is all an act. How can someone just leave there boyfriend/girlfriend and the bf or gf not react and just shrug if off like they don't really care? Plus one date on getting to choose your spouse? Not only that but the acting is terrible...

In my opinion it's fake.
I really have no proof other than what you have already said.
I'm pretty sure the main reason people go on the show to get noticed like aspiring actors or because though I am not sure on this,the people may get paid to go on. AND maybe there is the odd 'different' person who actually thinks they will find the love of there life.
Also, I like to think there a few less jerks in the world than I see on that show and that few less idiots would put up with such jerks :).
I agree the acting is pretty bad and the jokes are defiantly set up.
