Ok I recently got a facebook and everytime I request someone to be my friend and they confirm it Facebook sends me an email that looks like this: Merrill confirmed you as a friend on Facebook.

Did you confirm them as friends? A lot of times they will ask to be your friend, and you'll get an email saying they confirmed you.
If not, click the facebook picture at the top left, and on the top right of the next page should say you have friend requests.
