The first step in quitting is wanting to quit. I know that sounds silly, but a lot of people who say they want to quit cutting, never really actually commmit to it. It's difficult to stop, but commitment and self-love will get you there eventually.

You have to talk to someone. As strong as you may be, cutting is a powerful addiction, and you can't do it by yourself. Talk to a school councelor, or a friend. You'll feel so much better knowing you are not alone. Because you are NEVER alone if you have enough courage to ask for help. Someone out there will give it to you. Here are some tips to help with cutting, some may work. Some, maybe not. Just don't give up. You'll eventually find something that works for you:

Distract yourself. Color, draw, write, get online, do homework, read. Just do something. If you like the feeling you get when you cut, wear a rubber band around your wrist and flick it when you get the urge. If you like the way your arm looks after cutting, take a red marker or pen, and make marks on your arm.

The best advice I can give you is to take the 100 day challenge. Or 30, 20, or 10 day challenge. Just keep working your way up on the days. This is how you do it:

Get a calender, and tell yourself you aren't going to cut for however many days. Once you reach your end mark, you can reward yourself with something. Throughout the days, you can write in a notebook each time you get an urge to cut. Talk about why you want to cut, how you are going to distract yourself from it, etc. It helps some people, but can make it worse for others. Try it and if it helps, do it. If writing makes it worse, do something different to distract yourself. If you slip up, don't beat yourself up over it. You can always start over.
