Hey, im a freshman in high school and i had a question.
Basically, i need to start stepping out of the box. I need to open up and start talking to boys in my school. I do talk to guys, but only when they talk to me. I need to go up to them and start a conversation but i am too shy like that. I mean, i can continue a conversation once the guy puts forth the effort, but i can never start one with someone random, im way too shy. Like, my friends can start conversation with randomm guys and be so confident about it, but i cant do that! I think im pretty and i used to be so confident, but i dont know what happened. Any adivce?? I do flirt, LOL...but im way to shy to flirt with a random hot guy, because im scared of being rejected. Im sure that is what it is. My friend can go up to any guy and just start anything, while i just stand beside her and smile. Any advice please?! Im really going to try hard this week to be noticed! Thanks soo much! (link)

Hey... I'm not so sure I can answer your question because that is pretty much how I am as well.
My friends can do the same thing: talk to guys very easily, flirt with them, and if they like a guy, they'll have a boyfriend within a few weeks. Me, I just think, "He's so cute...I like him so much...and maybe he likes me" and I'll tell my friends I like him, and they'll ask, "Want me to talk to him for you?" and I'd say, "Noooooo!" because I'm terribly scared of rejection and that he'll be like, "Yuck, no." Although likely, that wouldn't happen.
With all that said, here's what you should do lol.
Make eye contact, not a 5-minute stare though. Just a few times, for a few seconds.
If he says a joke, laugh.
If he's in your class, ask him about hw, about tests, various little things such as that.
Then after you are pretty familiar with him, you can start teasing him.
That kind of subtle thing, since your personality seems to be more subtle.
And if your friends start a conversation with a random guy, freely join in. :)
