I would like to have an editor (or whoever chooses which books get published or not) read and hopefully publish a book. But the problem is, I'm not sure exactly how to go about it. Does anyone know how to get in contact with someone from a publishing company? Do you have to actually talk to them about the pages in person or will they take faxes/emails/etc. with the pages attached? And, also if anyone knows the answers to these, can you also tell me the names of publishing companies, who to contact, a way to get in touch with them, and any requirements they need? well beforeeee you even decide to approach a company you have to know your market... i.e who's going to buy that book if chances are high then go find yourself an agent (there are books in B&Ns that list a bunch of agents that take specific authors (example children's books fiction nonfiction politics...etc) so you have to find the right one for you. usually you don't have to pay a penny to them (the deal is that they take 15% of your book revenues) and when you get an agent you don't go sending in an email "oh hi i wanna publish a book and i want you to be my agent!" you need to have a proposal (what the books about who is it for -thats where all your market studies come in- a breifing about each chapter of the book, competition in the market and why you think your book is a success) a query letter (like a resume)...etc. it a whole proses... one tip though is that you have to send to about 6 agents (tell them you would like a response by 3 weeks lets say) and wait about 2 weeks if you get a response tell that agent you will get back to them because you are waiting for other responses too. if more come in.. lucky you! you choose who you want and notify the rest.
