Okay, I'm emo. Well, my other friends are emo too, but they cut themselves. I don't. I want to know, to be emo, do you have to cut yourself? People are spreading rumors that I cut myself and that I'm a pervert. I mean, sure I have a perverted mind, but I'm immature, give me a brake! can someone explain to me why they would say I cut myself, which I don't, even if I am emo. do I have to cut myself??? (link)

Oh, no of course not.
First. all 'emo' means is emotional.
It's just a stupid lable. I get it all the time.
I'll get goth//emo. blah, all that stupid shit.
but I don't lable myself. They think that you cut yourself because people are freaking stupid and think that if you dress some way then you're emo which means you cut. And that's not true. You don't have to cut yourself and you really shouldn't. it's terrible. I know from first hand.

But I don't see why people label themselves emo. All you have to say is you're just you because that is all you are.
