an ingrown toenail is when your toenail grows into your skin. (farther than it normally does.) you know when you have one because your toe will start to hurt for no apparent reason. as the nail grows further into your skin your toe may swell from the nail being under the skin, and the pain will increase. it also may start to bleed if you leave ittoo long. to get rid of an ingrown toenail you have to go to a podiatrist, where they will numb your toe and take the nail out. after the toe is numbed the procedure is painless, and usually very quick.
