is there a way to change it to be inbetween two of the preset options? such as 1024 by 768 is what i normally use, but i want more. so i moved it up a notch to 1280 by 1024, but that's a little too much. is there a way to get it inbetween, or no? [i'm using a laptop if the counts for anything, which i'm not sure if it does.]

There is no way to set it between the two settings. Because of the way that the screen is set up, the ratio has to be a certain number. In most computers that ratio is 4:3. There may be some number in between that can work, but no one really makes drivers for settings between that one.
