I'm thinking about going on the Birth Control Pill. I'm not sexually active but my periods are irregular.. and I may begin to be sexually active in the near future. I just have a few questions about it.
-How do I "bring it up" with my doctor?
-Does it actually help make your periods regular, and make your cramps not hurt as much?
-How effective is it against pregnancy?
:) (link)
The pill is a very effective method of contraception, but the disadvantage is that it doesn't protect against STD's, so your partner needs to wear a condom as well.
It does regulate your periods usually, and many women go on it to relieve period pains. However, it is not always effective in getting rid of pain.
As for talking to your doctor, just go for it! S/he will not find it odd at all, and will be happy you are being safe. She will suggest different types, and should have lots of leaflets for you to read about it as well!
Good luck!
