Crunches help a lot. Its just you need to know the right way to do them in order to get the results you want. When doing a crunch do not use your neck, try to get your spine off the ground and in stead of curling in a ball, go straight getting your back off the ground. These crunches should hurt after a few... thats how you know your doing it right. Don't rush into the crunches.. do a little at a time and work your way up. Also, do a variety of crunches, do regular ones, straight legs, lay on one side and do a crunch, anything that you can think of will help. There is this one really good one. You lay on you back with your hands under your butt. Have your legs straight up in the air and count down from five, as you count down slowly bring your legs to the floor (keeping them straigth). When you get to one (before you hit the ground), bring your legs back up and do the excersie again. DO about ten or so and on your last one, hold your legs six inches from the floor for about twenty seconds. This excersie is amazing and really burns your abs. Another excersie like this one is when you are in the same position (legs in the air) and you have someone push your legs to the floor. You have to catch your legs before they hit the floor and bring them back up for the friend to do it again. Its painful but worth it in the end. Oh and one more thing, while you crunch, concentrate on your breathing. You breath out when you curl and breath in when you straighten your body. Good luck! Let me know how you like my suggestions.
