okay well for a snack everyday during one of my classes i eat fruit snacks because they are small, clean and dont leave my hands sticky at all. well i know that they arent that good for you and my doctor doesnt want me eating them anymore and i was looking for an alternative. any ideas

it has to be

~ crumb free
~ not stick
~ fit in my purse
~ not too expensive
~ somewhat filling (more than fruit snacks)
~ wont crumble in my purse
~ wont make my hands sticky
~ can't need refrigeration
~cant use a spoon or fork
~ cant be destracting or take a long time to eat

My second response:
Cashews are definitely ok, but make sure they are unsalted. Cashews are one the saltiest nuts naturally. I'm sorry you are unable to eat fruit- it is an excellent snack. Keep in mind though that while fruits do have sugar they are not bad for you! The key to a healthy diet (when I say diet I mean lifestyle not weight loss) is everthing in moderation! If you have a single serving of fruit in the morning, the afternoon and maybe instead of dessert at dinner then you aren't getting too much. But of course I don't actually know why you can't so.. I was going to come back and suggest dried fruit instead of regular fruit because it is a great snack but maybe not now. Good luck though- I'm sure you'll be able to figure this out! And remember- if your doctor tells you to do something don't forget to ask him how. If he says no fruit snacks say "well then what instead?" :-)

I think your best choices are actually the healthiest choices!

-grapes
-celery
-carrots
-nuts (not peanuts or salted nuts- walnuts, pecans, almonds etc)
-chocolate covered nuts(if it is dark chocolate, and in small quantities- it is very good for your heart! how cool is that)
-cherry tomatoes
-blueberries
-Cheerios or other non sugary cereal
-Raisins
-cheese cubes (cheese can stay in your purse for a little while- it would be like having it in your lunch and it wouldn't go bad in that short amount of time)
-I would say like apple slices or oranges but sometimes that can be a little messy unless it's already pealed.
-I wouldn't really recommend granola because it is very sugary. If it is homemade that's a little different but the chewy kind that comes with like chocolate chips in it is not really good for you at all. It's a snack that can be a good alternative for fruit snacks but I wouldn't recommend it.

Keep in mind- if not for snack, these are excellent things to add to your lunches and they are all very healthy! Tomatoes and blueberries are on the list of foods that help prevent cancer and help your body in ways you couldn't imagine! I think they are refered to as Superfoods??

Just put those snacks in a plastic baggy and you're good to go. Oh and use the half size bags, they hold less so you aren't tempted to put more than you need.
