Hey guys! I'm 13 years old (almost 14) and I am in 8th grade. Next year, (which is not too far away) I will be in high school (freshman). For those of you IN ninth grade or over, does it suck? It scares me because I will be going to a school with 17 and 18 year olds and I'll be only 14 when I go to high school! Is it scary to go to high school? I've heard so many bad things about high school... the boys are the worst... I could probably survive in an all girls school because boys that I klnow are just mean except a few. I'm really scared knowing that I will be in high school! Can anyone give me some comforting advice to help me feel better because everyday, I get scareder knowing that another day is past and I'm that much closer to high school? I'm just scared... can anyone help me... seriously! I don't want sarcasm or rudeness in yall's answers. I'm just looking for a little comfort... Thanks!
P.S. I rate 5's to those of you who answer to me and who are being serious about the question and not goofing off...
Thanks!
Luv, Kay

I just started high school this year, and believe me, I felt the same way as you before school started. BUT it's such a breeze now. ACTUALLY, I like it even more than middle school :) You get like WAY more freedom in high school. I love it. But back to being scared..I definately was. I was like "OMG I'm going to be late to class everyday! OMGGG". Yeah, haha, but it's really not all that bad. But a confession: I couldn't find the cafeteria on the first day of school ;) That's pretty sad, isn't it? Yeah, but I got it eventually :)

Also, either at the end of 8th grade or at the end of summer (right before school starts), there should be some sort of an orientation (where you go to the HS you'll be attending). You might have had one for middle school. At my orientation, they took us around the school, gave us our schedules, showed us where our lockers are & we got to try to open them. It does help a little bit, so I would definately say go to that. Also, this sounds kind of stupid, but get a map of your high school when you can. MY high school provides a map on the back of our agenda books, so that is very helpful. Believe me, you may say "Ahh, I'll look like a dork!". But wouldn't you rather know where you are going? Just get one, it WILL be helpful.

Now..the part about going to school with upper-classmen.. It's really not that big of a deal. I'm pretty short, and there are like 7 foot kids walking next to me sometimes. You get used to it. Yeah, some kids ARE harsh, and might push around in the hall, but usually that is just to get to class on time. You may find it helpful to do it yourself sometimes too ;)

A hint on NOT being late to class: If you will be attending a very crowded school (like mine, about 600 per grade), then yes, the halls WILL be crowded. You need to make your way through to get to class on time. As I said above, you may need to push every once in awhile ;) But just remember, they may give you dirty looks, haha. Try to figure out the shortest route possible to your class (again..another place where a map would help). Don't worry about talking to your friends in the halls, unless you are positive that you have the time and won't be late.

If you are not much of a homework person, and you have some strict teachers, then you might want to get on it. Get the homework done. Don't procrastinate, it will just come back to haunt you later on.

If you get stuck in a class, GET HELP RIGHT AWAY. The teacher will most likely NOT slow down just for you. Possible ways of getting help: Staying after school with a teacher OR see if your school has any programs for helping students out. For example: My school has a late study for most subjects. It's in the evening for a couple hours and a teacher will be there to help you. I'm not sure if your school will have that, but you can ask. Also, your school will most likely have a peer tutoring program (where an upperclassmen tutors you in whatever subject you need help in). Again, I can't stress it enough: If you are stuck, Get help ASAP. IT WILL come back to haunt you if you don't, because school is like building blocks. Once you learn something, you just keep growing off of that. So if you don't understand something, and your teacher moves on and keeps teaching more lessons in which you'll need to know the stuff you don't get, it won't be good.

Now that I have lectured about some of the many aspects of the world of high school, I'll let you go. Don't worry too much, you'll make some new friends, and have a great time. You'll love it :)
