Hello, I'm theymos (Michael). I specialize in computer questions. I will usually not answer other types of questions.Over 2000 questions answered, for great justice. I am very experienced with Windows XP and Vista, I know enough about Linux to use it well, and I've never used a Mac in my life.

While I am not nearly as active on Advicenators as I once was, feel free to send me private questions or links to interesting public questions.

I currently dual-boot XP and Vista. I use Vista primarily, with XP for games. If your problem is particularly interesting, I am able to boot into XP or even install an operating system on a spare computer.

Feel free to contact me by IM (at right) rather than or in addition to asking me questions on Advicenators. With that method, I am able to better diagnose your problem, and I can also use a special tool to take control of your computer and fix the problem for you.

My computer is nearly always on, so be aware that when my IM status is "away", it could mean "away for 10+ hours".

Question:
Do those sites that pay you to take surveys or data entry really work? Which ones are legit? I know a lot of them require like a $60 sign-up fee. But what is the catch? Thanks!

You don't make very much money with them. The survey company makes much more money then they give you.

Cashcrate pays you to sign up for offers such as those surveys. It's a nice combo.

Cashcrate will tell you what the cost of each offer is, so you'll easily be able to tell whether an offer is worth it. Many offers spam you, though, so I recommend you use a spamgourmet email:

4:Upload your website to the host
5:Tell people the domain they give you, or get your own domain. TLD(like .com) always cost money. ccTLD(like .to) usually cost money, but some are free. You can get a .theymos.com domain by going to theymos.com.

whats an online job site like where you take surveys and get paid that i can trust? or are they all just untrustable? im only 15 if that matters. thxx

They don't pay much, but I have successfully made money this way. Two months of surveys turned into a $20 check, not really worth it in my opinion. Be aware that they *always* send you tons of spam, you should use a separate email account.

A better way to make money is the agloco toolbar, which just shows ads at the bottom of your computer screen:

Question:
okay...well the thing is that I'm real tight on money..I seriously only have a five dollar bill to my name..that's it, and my parents can't help that fact because they're on social security. I went to basically everybusiness in town and twenty miles out, but no one is hiring or they don't allow a job without experience. And no one needs house cleaners or babysitters..
In May, I will be attending Camp Wonderland to volunteer as a counselor all summer long..and I really need some money to get up there and some spending money.
Is there a job that I can do online for someone? Or something of that type? Like writing articles? I'm just so desperate.

There are online surveys that you can be paid for, but you don't make much with those 20/month max. You can play multiplayer games at moola.com(very hard) and win money, at no cost to you; email me if you want a beta invite. Most malls have job openings not listed in the papers, so check there.

Question:
the peice in the back of my tv, where the cable cord screws on, came out, so the tv isnt usable anymore. could i bring it to a tv repair shop to get it fixed? is that something that is able to be fixed? its the metal threaded peice that goes on the inside of the tv

Yeah that can be fixed. If it's just the part that's screwed in, buy a new cable. If the wires are actually ripped out, it'll need to be soldered back together by a professional.

Question:
I'm interested in becoming a color and aroma therapist. I've seen a lot of online programs, but I don't know how accredited they are. Wouldn't some sort of hands-on school always be better? Or does it really matter? Unfortunately I live in a small town, far from any of the schools I've read about. Should I just forget it because I wouldn't be able to get the best possible aroma/color therapy education out there? Because I don't live in or anywhere near LA or NYC?

There aren't any real "official" degrees in that, so it doesn't matter where you go. You don't even need a license to practice it.

Question:
Hi,
i was working with an Indian company in Mumbai in which i have a 2 year one sided bond.
After i got married i came to bangalore.My company has branch in bangalore also.
But they are neither ready to give a transfer nor give me a relieving order.
They are asking me to come back and work or pay the money and resign.
Can i proceed legally against the company?
what can i do? please advice......

If you are under 18, how do you be bound to a contract? Can your parents sign it on your behalf, etc.?

Minors can only be bound by a contract if it is a nescessety of life(food etc.).

K,hey,I really want to be a cosmetician at the bay ,you know liek selling expensive cosmetics and stuff.I just finished my aesthetics course (skin care and make up are my fav),anywayz recently some1 told me that it is really hard to get into the bay right because you have to have liek 2+ sales years experience,so,I was wondering if any1 knows what its like in there and what are my chances of getting there ,even for part time,(I'm almost 18 n I've worked as a receptionist for a year)..
