I adopted a 7 year old cat in mid-november. She pooped on the floor a few times during the first month, but lately has been doing it more often. The weird thing is that she also poops in her litter box, actually she poops there most of the time. It's just every once in awhile (and more often lately) that she leaves her droppings just outside her litter box, or very nearby. A few rare times she has also pooped in the kitchen on the rug. Why is she doing this? How can I get her to stop? She uses her litter box for pooping and urinating, so why the random droppings?

Well because she is quite old she might not be able to hold it long enough to get there on time.

My advice is put her litter box in the room she spends most time in that way she might be able to get there quicker.

If that doesnt work there may be a medical reason and you should take her to the vets just to get her checked.
